Southend V Liverpool FA Cup 3rd Round 10/01/1979

I was only 8 at the time and in my first season of watching SUFC but one of the few things I do remember is the announcement to move forward so more people could get in. I remember a similar thing when we played West Ham in the League Cup the year after as well, although I sat on my Dad's shoulders and we got moved from the South Paddock to the South Stand to let more people in.

Indeed. A 1-1 draw at Watford. We took the lead in that game (I can't recall our scorer). I remeber Ross Jenkins netting the equaliser though with about 10 minutes left.

As Watford were catching the media imagination at that time, for beating the likes of Man U in the LEague Cup at Old Trafford (they actually lost in the Semi-Final of that competition that year to Forest) and had Elton John as Chairman I reacall A lot of media dismay that we had beaten Watford and spoiled their potential big build up for the 3rd Round clash between Watford and Liverpool.

Might put in on Blues World if I can get permission from the Beeb.

Time to call my contacts.
I'd much prefer a DVD version and would snap up a copy without question.

Hearing the draw for round three on the supporters' coach returning from Watford was one of the most exciting experiences I've ever had as a Southend follower.

Winning the replay also came close. I seem to remember my dad stopping me from running on to the pitch at the end. I also remember his raised eyebrow when the Liverpool tickets were announced at the outrageously inflated price of £1.

And I remember making a 'Derrick Parker rules the Heighway' banner. I don't think that Steve Heighway played, or what position he used to occupy, but felt that a banner was appropriate for such a big event. The people behind us were almost as irritated by it as we were with the umbrellas in front of us.

Too you to go , but i do have the programme with Dalgleish on the front.

I took my daughter to the Watford 1-0 win. She fell asleep in her little pink jumpsuit. My arms ached for a week! (She was only 21. No! 2 really!)

He doesn't. He lives and works in Xàbia incidentally!
