Decent enough performance tonight and I can take nothing but positives from the evening, a well deserved and much overdue win (personally think we were worthy of at least 4 points from Burton and Barnet performances).

Positives from tonight, well a crowd of almost 3,000 for a start, a few quid and means a step closer to Wembley.

On the pitch Smith produced a couple of very decent saves and his distribution was improved from saturday, it will give him confidence and well done to the West Stand for the chant of "Southends Number one", I am sure that will give Smith a massive confidence boost in addition to what was only our second clean sheet of the season. In fact well done to the whole defence which looked settled this evening against an in form Daggers frontline.

Other positives were the performance of Dave Martin, he was unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions and of course Alex Woodyard - he produced a decent enough performance, very tenacious and was no worse than Spicer in the middle of the park...well done lad.

Kevan Hurst looks a real find and his delivery is awesome - Ryan Who??

Wood yard was better in this 90 mins than Spicer in the previous 900. Didn't look out of his depth, good control and passing. Would not be worried to see him starting in the league now.

He did well but went missing for periods. Does the simple stuff well. Doesn't look out of place though.

I agree. A decent performance tonight. Smith made some big saves, the back four were solid, the midfield were tenacious and balanced and the lads up front have now got a good understanding. I thought Prosser had his best game in a Southend shirt. No frills, just cleared his lines and a special mention for Woodyard, who looked a tidy little player. Just quietly went about his business. Well done young man.

Yep, agreed - glad someone else saw it that way.

For me, Prosser is a very important part of our squad, a valuable squad player and a vocal leader (evidenced with captaining the side in some friendlies). He never lets the side down with his no frills but honest and committed displays. I would gladly turn up and support players like him week in week out.

I agree with most of this. Careful not to build up Woodyard too much though. He did look very tidy on the ball, but he didn't get involved enough to make many tackles and looked pretty slow. Actually is a similar player to spicer on that showing

Agreed, he is no world beater, but he was more than competent and could 'do a job' for a couple of games if required. I don't think anyway is getting too excited and we still need a creative central midfielder and a 'nasty' midfielder to spoil the oppositions games.

What I would say is that Woodyard's performance shows that a midfielder is better in the middle of the park than a full back, forward etc....Square pegs in round holes and all that :winking:

I agree Silencer, he can do a job - in the same way that Bentley has showed he is able to do a job for a few games where the keeper is injured.

Yep, we said the same thing about Bentley this evening.

Nice knowing that the youngsters (Bentley & Woodyard) can do a job if needed.

Just got back to lesta. Thought we deserved the result, dominating for large periods.

The first goal was coming and although they had some chances before and after the second I felt that we would always have a little too much for them to handle.

Obv Cress played well. He is a ball magnet. Woodyard took time to settle but I didn't notice anything bad from him after that. Got up and down well.

Bring on Saturday.
