After their result last week, you must be looking to pip FGR to third place ? You have to go to theirs as well I think. TBH if we can finish 7th I'd prefer FGR away than yourselves in the first match
Well, a bit like you lot, we bounce between “we’re going to blow the playoffs” to “we can catch FGR” during games!
I think every team in the top ten is or has been the same recently. A little bit of consistency and suddenly the table is transformed.
We go to FGR for the penultimate game so if we can get within a few points that could be massive, we would hopefully sell out (1000+) but honestly that sounds a long way off atm!

Was almost unequivocally going to emoji thumbs-up, but Kendall for one of the other two? Hmmm...white cool calm in front of goal is not his strongest suit, BUT if one of the two mentioned has to go: Bonne. Hopper is a good defender.
Well we could have Walker instead of Kendall but who ever plays we need to score goals which we struggle to do so across the whole team.Oldham wont be a push over so we need to press them all over the pitch and Kendall can do that but yes scoring isn't his forte.

It will not have gone unnoticed by Kev and co that all three Boston goals started on our left.
If Ralph remains out we're in trouble.
The only square peg would have to be Golding drafted out wide - if fit.
Yeah, it leaves either Gubbins or Goodliffe in the centre, but it might plug one part of our potential troubles.
And please don't mention the new dad as a defender...

Gubbins and Agent Goodlife (why are these players with Good on the beginning of their names so ****e?) our at best our weak spot, at worse a complete liability.

If Boston can put 3 past our defence with those two at the back I think a side like Oldham will be licking their lips at the thought of those two jokers at the back.

My feelings on whether we can get the victory will become apparent at 4.30pm when the team comes out so let's hope Golding and Ralph are back to full fitness or we could be in trouble.

I wouldn't call him a footballer at the moment

Harry Taylor not covering himself in much glory at the moment either

By Chris Phillips. Chief sports reporter.

7:09pm
On Oldham, Maher says: "They have real know-how around their team.

"There's a lot of experience and good footballers around the team too.

"The manager knows the level ever so well and knows football inside out too.

"Watching them they're really hard working and efficient. It will be a physical one and an intense one too."

7:07pm
On James Golding, Maher adds: "He hasn't trained today. It's one we'll keep an eye on and there's something going on there.

"We'll leave that as long as possible."

7:06pm
On Jack Bridge, Maher says: "He's good and tired I would think!

"He's been in training today and all is well with his partner and baby.

"Jack is back training with us."

7:05pm
Maher: "We hate losing but we're really pleased with where we're at.

"Three or four months ago if you had said we'd be in this position then I think everyone would have taken it.

"Lets look forward and focus on Saturday."

7:04pm
On Saturday, Maher says: "It's two big clubs at this level. They're both well supported and there will be a big crowd in.

"You have to look forward to these games.

"We will need the fans behind us and lets see what these last seven games bring.

"Our full focus is on Saturday and I'm sure Oldham will bring a good crowd too.

"The atmosphere will be very good so I'm looking forward to it.

"It's two good teams going at it and it will be a real proper, intense game with two teams who will want to go out and win it."

7:01pm
Maher: "You don't get too carried away when you're doing well and you don't got too far the other way when you're not.

"We knew things would go against us at some point and my job is to look at the overall performance. The bits that were very, very good like the control we had in the first half and the chances.

"There are moments in games. We didn't get ours right and they did so it's gone the other way.

"That's football but you have to move on quickly and be ready for the next one."

6:18pm
How's Charley Kendall? I understand he's had a thigh problem.

Maher: "Yeah, he's managing it a little bit.

"He came on the other night but it's something we're keeping an eye on.

"He's trained though which is good."

6:15pm
Here's what Kevin Maher had to say

4:36pm
Still chasing that first goal of the season?

Morton: "I'm hoping to get that before the end of the season. Saturday would be good!"

4:36pm
On his own football and working his way back up, Morton says: "I enjoy every moment and it's been a grind going up and down the league over the years.

"Being in football in general is a tough one.

"It's not what it all seems and it requires a lot of resilience and self belief.

"I just want to make the most of it being at this level and this club.

"I want to be a big part of this team which I'm enjoying being part of at the moment.

"I know I can give a lot more and hopefully that helps us team wise as well."

4:34pm
Just how important is this game?

Morton: "It's big to be fair. Eastleigh was good and we got a good win there.

"We lost at Boston on Tuesday and if we lose again it's not season over but we get a point or a win, which we're chasing, it gives us more confidence to push.

"I know the teams above us will be looking at us a bit worried and we need to keep chasing.

"All we can do is try to win all of our games and I'm sure that will help us."

4:12pm
Morton on the league position: "Playing for Southend wherever you are in the table you go into it looking to win.

"We're very big on that and I'm very big on that.

"Hopefully we can put Tuesday out of our minds and go into Saturday now.

"We want to get a good performance and a good feel factor again.

"We deserve to be where we are in the table and you could say we deserve to be higher.

"Three points on Saturday and results going our way elsewhere again would see us in the play-offs which is where I want to be."

4:09pm
On Oldham, Morton says: "They're a really good, experienced team.

"Going off the game against them earlier in the season it was tough.

"They were quite direct and physical and we'll have to make sure we're on it both in and out of possession and that mentally we're up for it too."

4:06pm
On bouncing back from disappointment, Morton adds: "We're a team and a group.

"Being on your own it would be a lot more difficult but we're a good team with good staff at a good club.

"We're used to pressure and players at the level we are we back ourselves.

"We get around each other and say what we need to do.

"We have to brush it off and go again next game."

4:02pm
Morton: "We've recovered well and we're really focused on Saturday. We've had our chats and meetings and Tuesday is behind us now. The worst thing would be to dwell on it. We were on a good run before and it's good we have a game again so quickly so we can put it right."

3:01pm
Morton adds: "We've had some good results against good teams who are around us in the play-offs.

"All season we've been a team the big guys are scared of and we're still full of confidence.

"We're in a good mindset to get three points.

"Oldham will have to be at their best to beat us and being at home will helps us."

2:59pm
On the support coming Blues' way, Morton says: "It means a lot.

"You look at Eastleigh away and we had great numbers there.

"We really needed that extra man which they really gave us.

"We look forward to having another big crowd on Saturday and it's up to us to give them something to cheer."

2:55pm
Morton adds: "Sometimes the best thing to do is not dwell on it (defeat) too much.

"You look at the result and the game and take it on the chin.

"We had a good run up until then and we're still in a good position too.

"We'll put that behind us now and look ahead to Saturday.

"We can't go into the game thinking about losing 3-0, we're still in a good place.

"We'll take confidence from the games before and hopefully get a good result on Saturday."

2:49pm
James Morton is up first: "Tuesday was a difficult one to take. The majority of the game we had control of and we had a meeting about it this morning.

"We've looked at the stats and it was our game to win.

"To concede three goals is very disappointing and there are moments we can be better.

"It's disappointing but the good thing about football is that there's a game the next week.

"For us it's on Saturday for us to turn it around and hopefully we can do that against Oldham."

2:41pm
I'm still trying on TikTok! Follow me on there (cjphillips1982) and you'll go into the draw to win two tickets for Southend United's match with Oldham Athletic this weekend.

2:35pm
We're going to be speaking to James Morton and Kevin Maher.

2:34pm
Back at Boots & Laces this afternoon ahead of Blues' clash with Oldham this weekend.

If we play half as badly as we did in the second half on Tuesday, we are going to get tonked. I anticipate another insipid home defeat, followed by more excuses about embargos and preseason.
Although, of course, if we play as well as we did first half against Eastleigh (complete with goals), and keep it up for the whole game, then we'll all be happy.

Oldham will continue to chase the 3rd spot in order to avoid the first round of play offs.

Big game for us. Lose and it will be pretty much end end of story this season.

We need a win and should be close to 8k in attendance.
