Before the Burton game I was feeling strangely confident about that and this one, but all that optimism has sadly evaporated. I can only see a defeat, 2-0 or 3-1. Get this one out of the way then hope to God we can have a decent run in with the remaining games most of which should be winnable. Top 3 long gone unless Bury & one of the current top 3 have the sort of bad run only we're usually capable of, and we suddenly play like Barcelona. 5th is as good as its gonna get in my opinion.

McLaughlin is PB's last throw of the dice, let's pray that it works out for him and us. More concerned for him starting to fit in the side as we approach the play-offs. A good performance over the ninety minutes for me is the most important thing, any result from this is a bonus. We could just possibly be playing this outfit in a FAR more important game, towards the end of May. Look good, play well, keep eleven on the pitch and avoid any injuries, are the essentials for me.
Of course, I hope I'm right in assuming his loan period will include the play-offs!

I'm guessing that McLaughlin will definitely start providing he is not allowed to train before kick-off. We all know what happens to loanees who train with us soon after signing!!

My first away match since ............... Stevenage - and the scars are still to heal properly.

Who knows which Southend team will turn up - with the wind blowing in the right direction we have a squad capable of competing with the best in this league. And on other days they stutter and stall.

Anyone have any pub recommendations?

Swan and cemetery 5 mins walk from ground . Good ales plus they sell pork scratchings :pig:

I might try The Swan but I will try to stay out of a cemetery for a few years. And I especially like the "good ales" part of the recommendation, a dark, rich pint of porter will be most welcome.

Not off to a good start, the team and the coach they were on has just been involved in a traffic accident on the A127 just before the Fairglen/Chelmsford turn off.
As we drove past it didn't look look too bad for them although the cars and vans in front of them didn't look too clever..............

Apparently PB was going to ask the League to consider postponing the match due to International call-ups.

That'll be : Weston, Cassidy & Ted Smith - None of whom were going to play anyway!

Bury have won 7 of their last 8 and the last 3 in a row, and only one of those 7 wins was by more than 1 goal.

That sort of run has to end, as it must have an element of good fortune about it, and tomorrow is the day it turns.

Barrett in for Prosser and McLaughlin in for Hurst. Other than that, unchanged, and I see a 2-1 win coming.

Hi Shrimpers
You all feeling confident about tomorrow?
Just to parry the usual comments about the lousy pitch from those of you who go tomorrow, yes we know it's crap but a hell of a lot of money was spent pre season digging it up, putting in a new drainage system and re laying the turf. It was like a bowling green at the start of the season but rapidly deteriorated and clearly something has gone badly wrong and needs sorting again in the summer. It hasn't helped at all as we have a team who like to play it around on the ground.
We have had a couple of loanees from our mortal enemies Bolton come in recently, Tom Eaves, 6'7" so gives us more of a presence up front and Rob Holding brought in as cover for our regular RB who, rather stupidly, got a straight red last week and will be out for 3 games. Our two leading scorers have been out with injuries but hopefully will be back in the squad tomorrow. Daniel Nardiello, (13 goals), not pacy but a real fox in the box and Danny Rose, (10 goals), blistering pace and at his best as an impact sub. We also have Ryan Lowe, part of our last promotion team, along with David Worrall who hopefully will get a great reception tomorrow. Again Lowe isn't the quickest but is a real clever player in and around the box. We also brought back Hallam Hope who was great for us last season but has yet to find his shooting boots. Again very pacy but might not figure tomorrow. Key to the game tomorrow is the clash between our skipper Nathan Cameron and your Barry Corr, a card in there somewhere I think, though what colour remains to be seen. Also a lot of our attacking play comes from the interplay between FB Chris Hussey and Danny Mayor, (unplayable on his day but has been below par in recent games). Finally we have a fine keeper Nick Pope, on loan from Charlton lots of clean sheets but his kicking can be a bit suspect.
Anyway have a safe journey tomorrow, The Swan is a good friendly pub and you can park in any of the streets around there. Avoid the residents only parking around Gigg Lane as the traffic wardens are very active on match days.
For those with more time The Trackside on the platform of the steam railway station on Bolton Street is highly recommended with lots of real ales and around 15 or 20 mins staggering time to the stadium.
Phwew! Can't wait for tomorrow, one of lifes great pleasures giving the TangoMan plenty of stick from the Main Stand.

David Worrall's playing for them! .. This is breaking news! :omg:

Nice post, Shaker and good luck for the rest of the season, after tomorrow.

ps, Not old Nardiello! Remember him scoring twice against us for Barnsley when they beat us 3-0 at our place, the season we got relegated out of the Championship

Funnily enough , he's been getting that at home too !

I can't see anything but a battering tomorrow 2 or 3 nil to Bury,we've lost our way at the moment, really hoping i'm wrong.

Just for you Shaker1, we know Mayor - he was on loan here for a while before getting a permanent move to your place. My memory is of a player who had a mixed time but then you have to ask what the other players in the team were like to get a full picture.

Pope's a class act. No wonder you're doing well recently, no doubt based on a solid defence. Other than Shrewsbury's ginger midfielder (and obviously Barry Corr) I think he's the best player I've seen since we've been back down at this level.

Really commands his area. His decision making is exceptional.

Bloody hell, I knew Pope was good but just look at the stats

7 clean sheets in 14 appearances for Bury (and just 7 goals conceded)
14 clean sheets in 24 appearances for York last season
2 clean sheets in 5 appearances for Aldershot before that
4 clean sheets in 9 appearances for Cambridge the season before that
