Southend United chairman Ron Martin: I should have sold Bilel Mohsni to West Ham Unit

If RM had sought the advice of Sturrock and the CEO, it's highly likely that he would've been advised to tell West Ham where to go.

I hear what you're saying and you may well be right, all I can say is that I heard that it was a pretty good deal that had been pretty much agreed with add-ons for appearances (not starts as he was never going to be a regular starter).......then we asked for cash up front and the rest as they say is history.

I tend to agree with you as the buck stops with hum ultimately, but perhaps he should have asked Luggy his opinion, and also taken the advice of his then CEO.

A recurring theme appears to be that it's better to have something rather than nothing.

And if asking them he had taken 100k he still would have been slaughtered on here.

Mohsni was entertaining but I dont rate him as highly as many do on here, but I would have thought 100k to be very low if he had gone for that. I said at the time 200k + would be decent.

Can we not merge this with the other 1000 Mohsni threads on this website before the Interweb combusts in a haze of Brie and baguettes.

But again, that's all with the power of hindsight. Sturrock's often waxed lyrical of Bilel's ability, as have many of us at times, and it wasn't so long ago that there was uproar at Blackpool offering £150,000 that was mocked as derisory. If RM had sought the advice of Sturrock and the CEO, it's highly likely that he would've been advised to tell West Ham where to go.

Yes, with hindsight, we should've snatched Allardyce's hand off for £100,000, but nobody at the club has that power. Unless of course I've missed us appointing Captain Hindsight as Director of Football, which I don't think I have.

Brilliant, I'd green you again if I could. You're definitely on form today

Can all these people who rate Mohsni so highly please tell me something:

What position would do you genuinley believe he could play the majority of a season in and to what level? i.e Premiership, Play off Contenders in C'ship etc etc

He never even held a regular place in our side, he was a cracking option as an impact player but that was it!!!

:headbang::censored::duh:

P.S Fair play to Ron Martin, still a tool but fair play

Not often I defend Ron these days, but what mistake did he make ?

If he had accepted 100k he would have been slaughtered for it. I dont think asking for 250k was unreasonable, if thats the real amount, so not sure what he did wrong withouth the power of hindsight?

Totally right.
I'm surprised he's said it was a mistake , because as far as I can see , it's just standard negotiation procedure that is applied to many business transactions , not just football transfers.
In fact , if West Ham were in the least bit interested , then you would have thought they would come back and say 100k is our offer , take it or leave it.
Very odd one that , considering the fee ( either way ) is not huge for a Prem League club to take a chance on someone.

Don't forget who he was dealing with, Brady, Gold and Sullivan.

The mistake he made was he should have asked to go to the back of the room, come back and say "what about £250,000" ,when they say "i'm out" say "ok i'll settle for the 100 "

position for moshni well he started as a centre back and we thought he was good, he went up front the same, midfiield not so good, level cant say better than div 2 i think his probleml is and an agent is saying you prem standard, and at this stage it is not true be coached and improve your game with hard training take advice from the likes of ps' but it is not in his nature pity as he has talent but it will all be lost and back to park football. a loss for him and for us, but still we talk about him, i think that says it all

Lets get through to the next round of the FA cup. Draw West Spam. Knock them out and get our 100K that way.
Stick it to em.

I think the club activating the one year extension (club's option) was the wise thing to do, several clubs were sniffing around him and it seemed a no brainer in terms of selling him on and receiving a fee for him as opposed to seeing him leave on a free.

Although West Ham, Ipswich and maybe others were interested, I bet a fair few were put off by his public strike.

I hope he rots I really do

The club did the best they could. BM is totally deluded, as while he had potential, it certainly wasn't fulfilled and his all round performance has been totally undone by a really crappy character and attitude. IMO he is not worth 2cents at the moment and really needs to humble himself with another league one or two club and try and rebuild his rep. He could still make it, but I doubt as I feel he is too much of a loose cannon. Besides, we haven't really missed him!
