Echo News Southend United chairman Ron Martin: Fans won't come back until there is a vaccine

That sounds pretty conclusive.

I’ll inform the various doctors, epidemiologists & virologists that they’re worried about nothing then.
Not quite sure that's what I said, I was just stating what is definitely happening to mortuaries and that it is an odd thing to be happening if a massive new wave is suspected.

And re-doctors, epidemiologists and virologists, if one does a bit of reading it is clear that there are also many of those who have come to rather different conclusions than the current orthodoxy.

We shall see who is right, no doubt. But in the meantime and in what is left of my life I am not going to live in fear.

Anyway, off topic.

Whilst the different medical sciences may disagree on some aspects, the fear of a second wave is very real.

Hopefully you’re right, and there is no second wave.

Ron's suggestion is more nuanced than the Echo Headline gives him credit for. He's not claiming no supporters will return but rather only some of them. With our elderly demographic we have a large number of fans who will be at risk and then more who will live with those who are at risk.
If 80% who want to return that (and that would seem optimistic based on number of school children returning to school/ colleagues at work wanting to return to the office) that would be a 20% reduction in income. That's a big deal for a club already in crisis and having to deal with relegation which will reduce income.

Well, with everybody getting out more and with this disease now added to the pantheon of diseases we will have to live (or die) with then there will inevitably be more people getting it. The unknown factor being just how many will get it badly enough to require hospital treatment.

As I say, we shall have to wait and see.

That’s why it’s vital that iFollow and the EFL come to a swift arrangement for the upcoming season. That money being lost, has to be recouped somewhere.

I’m hopeful that the club will offer a virtual season ticket, which would allow fans to view every game on iFollow, for a one-off payment

I just fear it's pence rather than pounds and not anywhere near the answer coming in

Yeah I go with my Mum who'll be 70 by the time next season rolls around, only way of sneaking the flares in......

I'm pretty sure that when i asked last year, the club said it got a decent deal from Ifollow and a large portion of the money actually comes into the club. Will try and find the tweet.

I hear ya. For a change the fat cats will have to put their greed aside, and actually work for the football clubs they are meant to be presiding over.

I don't think huge numbers will do it either though, especially when logic dictates season ticket holders shouldn't have to pay for it
