Echo News Southend United boss Kevin Maher vows to fight on despite struggles

Kev is a loyal man and his staff which is unusual in the mad world of football but he is like marmite people would knock him as a player he only plays back or sideways ,
I liked him he was calm on the ball would always talk to his teammates through the game he’s been treated poorly by rm as a player and now as a manager.
When the new owners come in please reward this management team by backing them

Spoke to Kev and Bentley a few days ago as they were buying water for training (outrageous I know)

Both seemed totally drained from it all, completely in the dark on everything but somehow keeping the lads together.

What they have done, and continue to do for the club gives above and beyond a new meaning.

Kev, in my opinion, was a hugely underrated and even under appreciated player for us. He came back from being the target of the boo boys, to become a captain of a double promotion winning side. Captained the Club in the win against Manchester United and in the Championship.

As a manager, his managerial ability in terms of tactics, substitutions, game management etc is being completely overshadowed by the off the field issues. Kev, Benno & Currie have been amazing during the last 12/18 months. The spirit they have fostered is similar to the spirit we had under Tilly & Brush. He has kept the group incredibly close during the worst of times off the field for us.

He, 100% deserves his testimonial at this Club. He is more than a legend for us for everything he has achieved, everything he had faced and everything he has overcome. FF isn’t going to happen, looks like that is off the table, but next summer (if we survive that long), Kev deserves a testimonial. He deserve a full Roots Hall chanting his name and showing our appreciation to him.

King Kev! He was always a loyal servant and captain for us in his playing days, and as a manager he is up there amongst the best. I am still amazed that he decided to come back from Bristol (no one would have blamed him if he didnt), and now the loyalty and integrity of this man is a sight to behold.

No matter what happens next, there is no doubt that he is beyond a Southend legend!
