Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 5-0 Solihull Moors

I was in that crowd ! One of my ery games as a supporter
Same here. Was on north bank. I remember the same for two reasons, one the score line and the second being a shot that flew wide of the goal, past me, hit a barrier then rebounded hitting me on the back of the head and knocking me down the steps. The highs and lows of football!

I also think Derrick Parker scored 4 at tha Hall, against Torquay, but I might have that bit wrong.
Here's the list of Southend players who have scored 4 or more in a first team match:

2023-10-21 Daniel Kanu 4 goals v Solihull Moors, National League
1990-11-06 Brett Angell 4 goals v Aldershot (H), Football Lg Trophy
1985-08-23 Richard Cadette 4 goals v Orient (H), Division 4
1977-09-30 Derrick Parker 4 goals v Torquay Utd (H), Division 4
1976-02-17 Peter Silvester 4 goals v Brighton & Hove Albion (H), Division 3
1970-11-21 Bill Garner 4 goals v Weymouth (H), FA Cup
1970-03-28 Billy Best 4 goals v Peterborough Utd (A), Division 4
1968-12-07 Billy Best 5 goals v Brentwood (H), FA Cup
1968-12-07 Gary Moore 4 goals v Brentwood (H), FA Cup
1964-11-07 Bob Gilfillan 4 goals v Colchester Utd (H), Division 3
1964-04-04 Bob Gilfillan 4 goals v Shrewsbury Town (H), Division 3

We've done this to sides all season.
Sometimes it worked: Oldham for starters - literally; Woking, Eastleigh; Daggers, which makes the Fylde result all the more curious.
That's the NL, I guess. We press and against fifth-rate defences both in fact and literally, they can't deal with it.
I saw Stearman on the slide at Fulham - and that was six years ago!
Indeed. I think they're the best team we've had at Roots Hall this season. They were 100 times better than Solihull were yesterday.

Easy hat trick for Kanu? Didn't most of Gary Lineker's goals come from close range? The skill there isn't putting the ball in the net, it's being in the position to put the ball in the net.

Cracking performance from him, Bridge. Fonguck, Kensdale, Scott-Mossiss, oh sod it, EVERYONE but a special mention for Husin. Looked an absolute class above everyone.

I had forgotten about Cadette's 4 against orient (wasn't there) and the only time I've been there to see a player get 4 was against Bradford City in Division 4 in the 1970's when it was Peter Silvester I think who hammered home all 4 goals in a 4-1 victory.

If there is one disappointment it's that we didn't score more. In my 54 years of supporting SUFC I have never witnessed more than 5 and yesterday I thought this was it... but sadly not. Never mind, I'll do a Dave Brubeck and take 5...

What a game for Justin Rees to see though. For context, can someone provide him with video of the Doncaster 1-7 home thrashing and the Chesterfield pitch invasion matches please?
We did beat Bradford City 4 -1 but Silvester didn't score infact he didn't even plau. He was on loan to Blackburn Rovers around that time and subsequently ended up in the NASL in early 1977 playing for Washington Diplomats.

1976 / 77 Season
League Division 4
12th November 1976
Southend 4 -1 Bradford City
Scorers: S. Parker (3), Goodwin
Attendance: 5,417

However the previous Season...

1975 / 76 Season
League Division 3
Southend 4 - 0 Brighton HA
Scorer: Silvester (4)
Attendance: 4,784

I thought Timlin made an interesting point in the Q&A at half time in that the Southend crowd are patient enough to allow the defence to move the ball from side to side whilst waiting for an opening. When Maher first arrived I can remember some impatience in the crowd with this tactic and many cries of “get it forward”. Shows how far we have come both as a team and a crowd.

Brooklyn looks like he could easy get 5 plus a season from set plays. An absolute unit and his pace for a man of his size is unreal reminded me a bit if Leon Court and what a player he turned out to be!
Agree with this , I thought he caused chaos in their box on every corner and could have had a couple of goals to his name .
I too think he will chip in with 5-7 goals this season
