Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 5-0 Solihull Moors

So would I, if we go down I doubt we would ever come back!

Just look at Scunthope or Yeovil

Teams like Bromley for example are better run than most Division 1 or 2 clubs

I agree when Colchester dropped out of the League in the early 90s the National League teams a different kettle of fish back then , Teams all but part time clubs with crowds averaging 500 to 1000 home support

Colchester's was getting crowds of 3000 plus back then other clubs looked on like they was a Manchester United of the non football league to the other clubs

Today Southend United FC got over 6300 home fans through the gate and will still not in the top 3 supported clubs

ONE TEAM IN ESSEX

Certainly the huge revenue drop off with some away followings would cost.
I don't think the sum of away fans for the last 4 games has reached 100.

Although, that said I doubt the mighty HTFC brought close to 50 to you yesterday.

Have NL away numbers been screwed by live streaming services?......and weather.....and train disputes.......and costs.......and alternative sporting tele?

Easy hat trick for Kanu? Didn't most of Gary Lineker's goals come from close range? The skill there isn't putting the ball in the net, it's being in the position to put the ball in the net.

Cracking performance from him, Bridge. Fonguck, Kensdale, Scott-Mossiss, oh sod it, EVERYONE but a special mention for Husin. Looked an absolute class above everyone.

I had forgotten about Cadette's 4 against orient (wasn't there) and the only time I've been there to see a player get 4 was against Bradford City in Division 4 in the 1970's when it was Peter Silvester I think who hammered home all 4 goals in a 4-1 victory.

If there is one disappointment it's that we didn't score more. In my 54 years of supporting SUFC I have never witnessed more than 5 and yesterday I thought this was it... but sadly not. Never mind, I'll do a Dave Brubeck and take 5...

What a game for Justin Rees to see though. For context, can someone provide him with video of the Doncaster 1-7 home thrashing and the Chesterfield pitch invasion matches please?

My first game of the season, and what a match. I had half an eye on the game, and half on my son, so I could be completely wrong on all of this.

I can’t remember a more complete performance than that in years, and we’ve seen some terrific ones under King Kev & Co. We’ve been spoilt since Kev has come in. The football under him is the best we’ve seen since the League One promotion side under PB.

Couple of special mentions, although everyone of them deserves praise after yesterdays performance.

Starting with Kanu. Take the goals out of his performance for a second. He was truly outstanding. His movement, his pace, his work ethic, his touch, his desire is all first class. His interview after the game was incredibly humble, and mad for an 18 year old. If he keeps his feet grounded (he has a brilliant family around him), and doesn’t let this go to his head, he has a serious career in the game. He was on the whiteboard for a while, and I’m shocked Charlton loaned him down to the National League, let alone to us. Can see why he has been in and around their first team, and scoring goals at League One level.

However, it’s not often a performance from someone outshines someone that scored four, but Noor was incredible. I saw two rows in front of the likes of Cav, Ralph, Martin, JD (when he came up), Powell, and you can tell the team spirit. They were so complimentary of Noor, and all the lads, and the performance. Noor was described as a joke (a good thing before those get confused again). He absolutely ran the show, and we didn’t miss Cav at all. We will in some games, but today we didn’t. I’ve no idea why Noor is playing National League, but I’m so glad he is ours. If he was more consistent, he’d be a top end a league one player. His performance yesterday was Championship class.

Wes & Bridge, as @Yorkshire Blue pointed out, link up so well. They have some incredible patterns of play, and are such a threat when they link up on that left hand side. Top drawer from both of them.

Brooklyn looked like he had played for years. Could have scored twice but for two top saves from their keeper. So nice to have a centre half threat at set pieces again, but more importantly he did his job very well. Looks a real player. Can see why John Still is excited about him, as are the three amigos, but they are keeping that under wraps.

Everyone else played very well. What a day, what a performance. Now, if only we had a full squad, and weren’t deducted 10 points 🤔

Was waiting for your report mate. Did you manage to see the whole game with the little man? Either way what an incredible game to be your first match. It’s gonna be tough for him to better that if he does become a Shrimper!

Not out yet I don't think.

Just a reminder for those who have forgotten or might not know but there are full match replays on the NLTV site. I'm not sure how quickly they put them up but l'll certainly watch this game again & you only need a login.

Harrogate brought 94 fans yesterday, mind you half of those were whippets and racing pigeons:Smile:

Really enjoyed the game even though, yet again, I arrived two minutes late inconveniencing everyone (again) as I got to my seat. And I’m not ideally sized for squeezing past people. Another **** up on the planning front…

What can be said that hadn’t already been said…

A word on Brooklyn. He will be some player. His size makes him a huge threat at set pieces and similarly defensively. But the two things he has with that make the real difference are that he has pace and is comfortable on the ball. Potentially the difference between a good lower league CB and something better.

However, he is young and his positioning on occasion is off. Another side could have taken advantage.

I suspect Ralph will replace him when fit. Although Kev, no doubt, would love to see more of him in the opposition box. That said, as with Coker, right at this moment he has his opportunity- some like Coker learn really quickly, seemingly gain a years experience in a month, and make themselves undroppable.
