Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 4-0 Ebbsfleet

A very entertaining game where we could of won by another 3-4 goals. It is hard to say whether it was the lack of the opposition who offered nothing or us upping our game. You can see why Ebbsfleet are bottom so i won't get carried away with this result.

The partership between Pepple ( if we can keep him) and Kendall is 100% the way forward IMO as they worked so well together and Kendall never stops running and harassing.

Golding is another who played very well on his full debut but nobody played badly. Great crowd of 8400 but there will be some big moans about shutting off the new burger bar to The West stand fans.

On to Braintree who i see had a very good result today, so that will not be an easy game.

A good performance and result against a very very poor side. I enjoyed the win but I'm not getting carried away till we do that against teams around us in the league.

Kendall and Golding look class. Pepple phenomenal again. Pepple and Kendall together look a great partnership

Few thoughts:
- that front pairing has great potential, they seem to have developed a great understanding already
- the new centre back showed more composure in a minute than Crowther has since he arrived
- opening the north bank and subsequently splitting up the only part of the ground that makes any noise was a huge mistake. Worst atmosphere we’ve had at Roots Hall in a long while

That was a great all round performance, whilst they didn't have a shot on goal there were some sketchy moments at the back.

We looked very dangerous going forward and could have had double the amount of goals.

Bring on Braintree, we are now bang mid table, almost equidistant points wise between the playoffs and the relegation zone which is where I expect we will finish up with our season effectively being over within a month. Given where we were just before the start of the season I'd take that

Yeah, we played a poor side in Ebsfleet, but we could have messed it up, or grabbed a 2 goal lead and try to close the game off. We didn't, though. We played well, we kept pushing and we got the biggest win of the day in the VNL. And just look at Braintree today (wonder what Murkey thinks of that).

I enjoyed watching us today, even if through a camera lens with condensation on the inside!

We did the things we wanted us to do today. Theur keeper made some good daves to keep the scoreline more respectable. Let's enjoy it.

They were very poor and everyone is beating them easily so difficult to tell if that was the reason we looked better. Least we scored 4 so that is good. Agree about Kendall and Bim, defo the way to go. Noor looked much more lively and Cav did well.

Plenty of people in the match thread around 14:00, sporting a lovely shade of egg on their faces right now. Y’all know who you are 😂😂😂

I was expecting more from Ebbsfleet but they were terrible. The worst we’ve seen at RH all season. Probably the worst since Dover a few years ago tbh.

That being said we did what we needed to do. Pep will take the plaudits but I thought Miley was top drawer & Kendall ran himself into the ground. Same as in York, he should have scored, but hopefully that’ll come.

If we’d scored 7/8 today, it wouldn’t have been unjust.

Weird atmosphere in the ground today though. Not a fan of W block and the NB being split.

Reckon after today’s result, we’ll make up 70% of the crowd at Braintree
I believe Braintrees Chairman is a SadO supporter and said Orient are a bigger supported than compared to Southend United ( A bit of a dig )

I see when last played the Sad O's in the League they got 2,400 home crowd

I agree our visit next week, we see will over 2500 Southend fans and and 4000 plus gate :-)

Good result against a team that looked the NL South level they will be next season. Improved performances from several, namely Husin and Bridge, also Gus who chips in with another goal, more intent and moved the ball quicker. Miley better but still looks a little out of sorts. Pepple has been a great loan signing, leads from the front with his workrate and quality in front of goal. Kendall looks a good partner, desperate for Bonne to get off the mark. Golding also looks a promising addition. More composed and a physical threat in both boxes, strange he went from not in the squad last week to starting today. Also better discipline and even the officials weren’t bad! Roll on Braintree!

Improved but Ebbsfleet would probably even struggle in the NLS playing like that. Feel for their supporters, a long season for them and we’ve been there before.

Kendall looks a handful, Miley getting involved more.

Pepple far too good, but why take him off on a hat trick?

Ebbsfleet left pockets of space everywhere between their defence and midfield yet we couldn’t fully exploit it. Fortunately throwing the ball down the channels was enough in this case.

Subs took the life out the game, was hoping Bonne could make use of his cameo to finally get a goal, but I’m becoming more convinced he’s just not up to it.

So no doubt a lot of people will be ecstatic Maher led us to a 4-0 win. Of course it’s great and much needed. But let’s not get carried away .. Ebbsfleet were the poorest team that’s visited RH in a long long time. We had way more of the ball than usual and they let us win challenges far too easily. They’re going down unless they switch things up sharpish.

On the plus side, Golding and Kendall were just what we’ve been missing. Both played very well. Kendall never stopped snapping at their heels and Golding was a presence, authoritative. Shame he’s not ours. Miley’s best game in ages.

At 4-0 .. yes the game was won but the multiple substitutions killed the game and the atmosphere. I get keeping players fresh but I felt for Bim again, he barely put a foot wrong and was on a hat trick.

North Bank .. hmm jury is out. I certainly won’t be moving from the West.

Golding was masterful at the back. Looks some player. Strong, athletic with great composure on the ball. That run and through ball to Kendall in the first half was sublime.
Husin and Miley dominated in midfield just like the good old days. Bridge was always a threat out wide and was helped by the ball being played out to him far more quickly. Loved the movement and work rate of our front two today. They looked like a real handful and seemed to quickly develop a proper partnership.

Well done KM for finally having the courage to drop Crowther from the squad today. It paid off handsomely. Golding is on a completely different level, not just with his ability to sense danger and his overall greater mobility.

Finally the players looked like they were playing with a greater freedom today and with a tempo to match. Yes, that was partly due to the poor opposition, but It was great to finally feel like we were properly entertained today.

More of the same at Braintree on New Year's Day please.

4-0 about par for the course considering how poor Ebbsfleet were. Anything less would have been disappointing. Without Pepple I wonder how we would have fared as he made all the difference up front. Sterner opposition awaits with Braintree doing well today and that might be more of a test. A welcome three points of course but this was always the home banker of the season and no one should get carried away.
