Negative. Apart from a five minute spell where we suddenly discovered how to shoot again. After the sending off it was obvious there was going to be 10 minutes or so before the game was up. At that point we had them on the racks...how dare the team play the ball into the corners at that point. How dare they? Going nowhere.

Can't really fault any of the players today, we played a real mixture of football which was nice to see. Can't fault Sturrock either.

One person we can fault is the referee, who let the game get away from him. His decisions seemed to be completely random.

Belford - 6 - Didn't have much to do, no stopping the first goal, no idea what happened for the second, flapped one cross.

Clohessy - 6 - Things weren't working for him in the first half, think he was making the wrong decisions, but he improved with the introduction of Hall in the second half.
Phillips - 7 - Commanded well, few good tackles and made one great clearance which saw him nearly getting knocked out by the post.
Prosser - 8 - Great finish and did most other things well, deserved man of the match. His weak header did lead to the first goal mind.
Gilbert - 7 - Did okay, couple of dodgy bits of play. Got involved a little going forward and nearly made a goal.

Sawyer - 6 - Poor crossing and shooting, good workrate and passing generally though.
Timlin - 6 - Dunno about Timlin lately, games seem to just pass him by? not sure if this is his fault or not.
Grant - 7 - Granty is back to his best, keeps it simple and his passing was great today.
Martin - 6 - Looked threatening, decent enough quality on the ball but was kept fairly quiet.

Harris - 6 - Should have scored (again), good link up play and effort.
Sampsom - 6 - Another average game.

Subs:
Hall - 7 - Looked our most threatening player, unlucky with one effort, took him a little while to get into it.
Benyon - 7 - Well taken goal, nice to see we actually made him a chance and look what he did with it! So good in this physical league for such a small guy.
Ferdinand - 5 - Silly yellow card gets him a 5.

Ref - 3
Fans - 8 -
Sturrock - 7

Enjoyed the game as a hole, ball was on the ground more than usual for both teams. Stag do in the south upper made for some entertainment and we got some chants going in the second half which is good enough for me.

Red card looked harsh?

Another **** ref, luckily for us, as I thought they should've had a penalty, plus their sending off was harsh.
For the equaliser, Belford was too busy pushing the man in front of him, instead of concentrating on the ball.
And BENYON SCORED! what a finish.
Anyone know when Hills is back? Gilbert....nuff said

Really poor officials today & Accrington were a poor side. I know Sawyer has a big following but Hall showed how much more he offers. Prosser generally a good game but his poor header back into the middle gave the first goal. Think we will miss Grant on his suspension & interesting to see if Prosser keeps Barker out. Not sure we should have extended Sampson. He has not scored & whilst he has potential I question what he brings above others including Matt Paterson who is still on the payroll.

Plenty of positives to take, but a silly lapse of concentration at the end has completely changed the mood. Should give Accrington some credit, they played well.

I thought we actually played a lot better football today, just two errors, the first being Prosser and the second being Martin, have cost us the three points. Just hope this doesn't dent the already low confidence. Will be interesting what team is picked next match

Who is the mug who keeps texting in to BBC Essex after games using names of pretty well known posters on here with a "Sturrock and Martin out" message? Yorkshire Blue copped it today!

That isn't to blame at all.

Agreed. I think his substitutions changed the game in our favour. There isn't a lot Sturrock can do from the sidelines about that equaliser. I've no idea how it went in but some are saying Dave Martin inexplicably let the ball go over his head.

Exactly! Also didn't really see what happened for the equaliser, we seemed to have 3 men around the front post area and it went over all of them :/

Has Gilbert cost us Promotion

After watching Peter Gilberts attempt at being a pro footballer today and many other games this season. I feel so ANGRY.
He just is so bad its unbelievable. His positioning is non exsistant, he is slow, cant pass a ball, cant defend and cost us both goals today. He blames others for HIS mistakes too !! A total liability. How many points has he cost us?
IMO he should not be allowed to put on a Southend United shirt ever again.

But at least the "team spirit" is thrilling now that horrible Mohsni is gone.
We scored 2 goals and didn't always play hoofball, I'd call that an improvement, it's still a work in progress but on a whole it was a lot better than previous weeks, it was poor to concede so late but we definately played better than the past few home games and looked more like a team.
