Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 2-1 Tranmere Rovers

Also worth noting that at the exact same stage last season we only had 4 more points so maybe we aren't quite as bad as some make out.
That's a fantastic point to note and one that I was not aware of. Just looked into that a bit more and noted;

With 17 games to play last year 6th place was on 46 points. This year 51 points.

Last year finishing 6th with 70 points would have been enough. Looks like 75 ish will be required this time around.

Last year our final 17 games resulted in 10 wins, 5 draws and 2 defeats. 35 points. If achieved same results then thats 72 points. In my opinion even that run would not be enough for the playoffs.

Very much about getting the five wins on the board for safety. Then achieving a respectable top half finish.

Freedman 6 - at times his class and more than anything his experience shines through, yet made lots of unforced errors and misplaced far too many 5-10 yards passes. Conceded very soft penalty and was then needlessly off-side.

I wouldn't say "needlessly" offside. Had he not been in an offside position he wouldn't have got the ball in the first place.

I would not say offside at all.. When JFC heads the ball from Moussa's ball into the box, I am pretty sure Freedman is level with his defender.. from the Blues World highlights...the ball was in the air for a long time, and Freedman made up a lot of ground, so by the time he headed it, he looked well offside... I didn't think so on Saturday, and the highlights confirm that to me.

What game were you watching? Moussa was absolute quality, albeit unspectacular, and in my book was one of 4 contenders for MOM today, the others being Francis, Macca and Dervite.

Your other ratings are about right though.

Wow. Can't believe anyone would've said that.

He's outta position, granted, but he was awful. Never once took his full-back on, never went hunting for the ball, didn't look like he was trying in all honesty.Can't remember a shot, passed to another then stood there admiring it when he should be tearing up the line looking for a return ball, created zilch and wasn't exactly supreme in his defensive duties neither!

I will say that when he got the ball he never lost it...

Can't agree with you there. Moussa's game isn't about going round the outside of his man and you are crazy if you are going to judge him on that. Moussa is a rare beacon of quality on the ball and off it I lost count of the number of times he managed to block a Tranmere pass. My main criticism of him would be that he wasn't involved in the game enough, but that is more a criticism of his team-mates ability to get him the ball.
