Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 2-1 Chesterfield

I struggle to find words in my comprehension to sum up how bloomin' good this team is week after week after week.

Every player put a shift in. If you look at the last ten, Mooney summed it up. allegedly can't settle and wants away, but did everything and more that you would want a player to do with fresh legs in that game to see it out.

My MoM? hard to pick an individual, but I will.

Stand up Harry Taylor! What a performance. Solid under pressure, some blocks and tackles, one great one in the last 5 on the edge of the area. Oh and who was it pops up in the opposing box and wins a Penalty. Unbelievable and when the embargo is lifted Kev, please keep Harry at the back, 'cos he is just superb there!

Everyone else tried their hardest. If you can find it, our performance today was summed up by Paul Cook's post match interview. You just can't take it away from this squad. When they get the backing they deserve, there is the possibility of being on the verge of something very big here, you can sense it.

When the players go out they know exactly what job they have to do, because of the scouts, coaches and three amigo's.

Today was the first game this season we have come back from behind in, what a day to do it. TNT presenters were raving about us and quite rightly so.

We've just beaten the League leaders and best team in the division, in front of our biggest crowd of the season and on TV! Just how good does it get?

And back to my opening sentence, what new words can you find to sum this club up now?

Over to you peeps!

The boys were fantastic and the look on there faces at the end was incredible to see, Cheshire cat grins all round, lots there to be taken forward to Gateshead, Long way to go but our support is second to none

just got in - wow just wow

thought first half it was pretty even they just had that extra bit of quality up top

second half we seemed to up a gear and thank God for dodgy officials as our pen was defo outside the box, and thank God for their keeper who looked suspect the whole game

My MotM - Taylor

Incredible win. As I said in the other thread, Chesterfield have won their last 6 League games by 2 goals or more. They also beat Portsmouth in the F.A.Cup. They are a League One side all day long, and have spent the money to be just that. They will win this League comfortably in the end, and I think they may go up again for a double promotion. So what a win for us. Every player played his part. Every player a hero.

What is up with Paul Cooks voice in the post match interview? Sounds like he's been chain smoking the last 90 mins

He was very complementary about us
I was concerned about his blood pressure! He was very animated on the touchline through most of the second half.

How many times have we had a massive crowd and not won. 8200 plus against the top teams Unbelievable 10 all round. Special mention though for Scott Morris. Where does he get the energy from Defence .and attack ,and.loved his first time.crossed.volley that caught.even our guys.out.The fact that we couldn't freshen up was credit.to thier determined efforts in closing Spireites down.
Well done everyone Kev and the team.Onwards

Simply astounding, and I'm fast running out of superlatives to describe these boys. Easily the most likeable team since Tilly's....maybe even more so.

That was a team unbeaten in 15......and we could only have a matchday squad of 13.

To be honest I thought we were sloppy with the ball at times today, first half especially, but what won us the game was what the boys did without the ball. Our work out of possession is astonishing, exemplified by Harry Taylor today, whose positioning, reading of the game and strength in the block/tackle was outstanding.

The way we press from the front, set traps, close down, pick up loose balls is excellent, and huge credit to the coaches for the tactical drilling that these boys are getting. It's of a very, very high level.

I also thought a little tweak at half-time helped us, and that was to overload the left hand side. They were quite solid and had Bridge sussed out in the first half, and Wes wasn't making inroads out there either. Rather than keep banging heads against a wall down there, or to give up and switch to the right, it seems like they were encouraged at half time to overload. We had 4 players high up the pitch down our left side at times in the second half, and Chesterfield couldn't cope with it.

Add all of that to the fact that they're absolute mentality monsters, and you have a great mix!

I keep saying it but we need to get this sale over the line and then watch it take off.

What a club, what a team, what a unit the consortium have bought.
They got a bargain, I tell you that much

The lads stuck with it today and got the reward

3 points against a team who are top and streets ahead and all live in TV for the world to see

Absolutely buzzing

Only a 6 for Coker, thought the lad was outstanding with and without the ball
This!!

Had him joint MOM for the effort and grass he covered- never stopped and was good with the ball as well.

Also thought Martin was exemplary, commanded his area and took pressure off the defence by coming off his line and claiming crosses.

Yes, I think you're right. I'm skipping back through the replay and he did a lot of stuff that I wasn't noticing.
Its taken me a little time to warm to Coker, but I think he's becoming a superb player, just does a huge amount of work without fuss or trying too hard. It'll be harsh on him if Miley comes straight back in and replaces him.

The foul on Taylor was just inside the box from my view in the South Upper. Also, loads of fans shouting offside for their goal and going mad about it. It was onside from what I saw, with their two strikers timing it perfectly. The luckiest thing for us was obviously the own goal.
