Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 1 - 3 Eastleigh

Does anyone know what we can and cannot do to get in an emergency keeper?
We obviously can't have one if Blondy is still with us.
Would it mean Stoke recalling him first, and then in the same breath signing someone else?
Or would we be forced to play a youth keeper?

On the Blondy front, there seems to be a sizeable number on here who think he's rubbish/not very good/mistake prone/total donkey/etc etc. All of those things may be true, but what is also true is that he is our only keeper available for 1st team selection until either Collin or Steve regain fitness. For this reason he needs our support more than ever now as we have several games coming up where he will be our keeper, whether we like it or not. I would imagine his confidence at the moment will be pretty near rock bottom so I for one will give him a cheer at the next game.

With 3 home games out of the next 4, pray forbid he makes an error next Sat,

The level of cheating and in particular time wasting in the NL really is unacceptable. Ultimately people attend football for entertainment, I don’t see how anyone can enjoy prolonged periods of time with the game stopped even if you are on the winning team. Even in the dour old days of league two a lot of teams were long ball or would park the bus, though it wasn’t pretty to watch at least it is a legitimate tactic and challenge to overcome.

It was obvious what we were in store for as soon as the first goal went in and suddenly their striker’s shoelaces became untied. Boreham Wood are still probably the worst I have ever seen for cheating but Eastleigh ran them close today, similar to the playbook Bromley and Woking operate from. Maybe it is more than coincidence these are all more traditional non league teams rather than ex league clubs.

I don’t know how they only came up with five minutes stoppage time in the second half, there were four separate substitutions and three goals, all those other stoppages must have barely counted for anything (especially for the goalkeeper’s farcical ‘injury’).

The authorities really need to be doing more to clamp down on this time wasting as it really is ruining games. I’m glad we have not resorted to the likes of Boreham Wood, Eastleigh et al. Kev has done a great job in difficult circumstances in the past 15 months, however his constant berating of the fourth official every game lets him down and is tedious. It all seems to add to the general misery that the spectacle of our games at this level are.
Refs in this league also don’t give yellows when players deliberately foul to stop counter attacks.

This stuff would stop with a clear directive from the national league. As it is, it enables grotty dirty football, and 35 minutes of ball in play rather than 60 as should be the target.

The club may deserve where we have got to, but the national league do not deserve 5 or 6 thousand attendances from the likes of us, Notts County or Wrexham or a few others.

Oh. And blondy. Over the years we’ve had players who aren’t ready for the league, but may be one day. We loaned them out and they made their mistakes elsewhere. We are now the elsewhere. Has the attributes to be a decent keeper but makes mistake after mistake.

My first game of the season today and from what I've read, it followed a similar pattern to a lot of our other defeats. We played the better football, had more of the play but didn't create enough chances, the opposition take their chances and then employ the dark arts to see it through.

If we want to get out of this league I think we need to become a bit more streetwise. Eastleigh were horrible (particularly numbers 8 and 14) but effective, and once they'd taken the lead you knew what they were going to do for the rest of the game. The referee also let them get away with it, which didn't help. For all our possession, we didn't have a real chance until Bridge hit the bar.

Hard to pick a MoTM. Bridge started positively and all our attacking play went through him, he had the beating of their full-backs but sometimes he took too many touches and turns and needed to release the ball quicker. Miley was decent. Disappointed with Taylor, and I don't think much more needs to be said about Blondy. I wonder where we'd be if Arnold had been fit all season...

I’ve got to say I agree on Ralph. I hate, really hate calling out individuals but the bloke has been in how many relegation sides?! Play to our strengths and stop trying to accommodate Ralph. I won’t say any more about Blondy, we need our two lads back ASAP. I’m also not going to moan about the ref, we know the refs are **** in the NL, we should’ve played better. End of story.

What makes it worse, is arguably our best center back, certainly the one on form, is sitting on the bench making way for Ralph (I know he missed a game due to suspension, but needs to be brought back in)

I can't believe how much the ref was sucked in and how much he let go. Keeper going down holding his leg when nobody was near him and we were trying to take a free kick was a joke. Kicking the ball away as we are about to take a free kick and the ref doing nothing. Lopata being held and pulled about in the box, calling the lino to watch it happening and it being totally ignored. Cardwell going for a header, their player not bothering to challenge, instead bending over so Cardwell goes over him and the ref gives the Eastleigh player a free kick. The list goes on and on

Don't forget the arm into Taylor's head, which led to the Eastleigh player deciding to hold his own head, otherwise you knew he risked a second yellow - no way that was a clash of heads 😡

I would like to see these 4 changes for next week:-
Hobson for Ralph
Scott-Morriss for Demetriou
Hyde for Powell
and I’m sorry, either Parnell for Blondie, or a feigned injury so we can bring a keeper in.
Whatever anyone’s views are on Blondie, after today his confidence will be shot to pieces and we can ill afford to carry any passengers, least of all a keeper.

I think Blondys loan is up. Kev is talking about getting an emergency loan

Its not good enough.

With Arnie we would have10 more points and sitting in 3/4th place….because of Ron Martin we have a bloke in goal that should be playing for Wakering, Collin as well tbh….Shambles Martin , scumbag!
