I thought it bobbled too actually, and it wasn't his fault that the bloke was clean through on goal!

Other than the first 5 minutes it wasn't the worst (or best) performance of the season - about average. On another day that free kick would have sailed over the South, the bloke would have pushed their second wide and we'd have won 1-0. Shame it wasn't another day today!

Why did Ferdinand come off? Was it tactical or did he have a knock?

If he didnt have a knock then hauling him off after 15 minutes is going to completely shatter his confidence for a while

At 2-0 down we needed someone in CM to drive the team forward. Kane was good at Oxford for sitting and holding and at 2-0 up that's the player you need. At 2-0 down after 10 mins you need a different tactic so I can see why he was sacrificed for Grant

Never been as disinterested as I was today, I was absolutely frozen and the somewhat lacklustre and half hearted performance from certain individuals did nothing to spark any warmth or excitement. I left just before we scored, first time ever I've left so early but I was THAT disinterested and cold! I thought Evans was unlucky for the 2nd, it looked as if he should easily have had it so if Andy S is right in his comment that at least gives some explanation. Barker and Coughlin were impressive I thought, and Herd had a good game too, which seems strange when we lost. Soares was practically non existent as usual and Hall couldn't do anything to cross a ball at all. Blair just wasn't at the races today, and I thought Pato when he came on looked good with Corr. Bad luck on Ferdinand being sacrificed for Grant, if we needed him he should've started, hope that hasn't knocked the youngster's confidence too much.

Evans, Clohessy, Soares, Hall, Sturrock - 4
Easton, Ferdinand - 5
Corr, Herd, Paterson - 6
Grant - 6.5
Coughlin, Barker - 7

Didn't notice Comingues so no mark. Ref seemed to miss a lot, several handballs, and a passback, not aided by a lino oblivious to JJ Melligan's manhandling. Crowd didn't get on their backs too badly which was good as it was really just 3 minutes of poor concentration that caused the problems. As to the seagull, poor thing was a badly disorientated and tired youngster. Was very unimpressed with the behaviour of some towards it.

Anyone tell me what the two red stripes down Blair's legs and one black one down Craig's was all about?

Probably that new sport science tape that players seem to be wearing. Gareth Bale has been recently.

were people watching a different game from me i thought apart from first 10 mins we dominated and played more like we did under tilly style wise. if we play like that till end of season im very confident of playoffs.

Ticket office - 0

Got to the West Stand 10 minutes before kick off to find a queue that was stretching some way up the road and getting longer. Then some guy in a suit (Jobson?) comes over and starts shouting that they've run out of tickets in the ticket office and someone was coming across the ground bringing some more, which took ages. By the time I made it into the ground, Cheltenham had scored twice. Had I known as much, I wouldn't have bothered going in and would have gone shopping with the family.

Would have been one heck of a lot more interesting and not so bloody freezing!

Obviously, Coughlin had a great game today, was commanding and really geeing up those who were underperforming. Grant was not some kind of mega saviour when he came on, he did some good stuff, but he equally did some pretty crap stuff too and no way deserving of a 9.
thanks James, still don't really understand why only one leg!

Obviously, Evans cost us two goals and therefore the game. We're not a side who can come back from conceding two like that as we don't have the players to do so IMO. Not enough genuine pace or creativity within our squad to chase games and get back on level terms, expecially against a decent league two side. Thought Coughlan was man of the match today.

First half we were absolute dog****, defence all over the place, two wingers were atrocious. I applaud Luggy for putting Grant on so early, he was outstanding second half, drove the team on and if he goes we will really be in the ****. Second half we huffed and puffed a bit but never looked like equalizing. Their keeper had jack all to do, whilst Evans made 2 or 3 smart stops to keep the scoreline respectable.
Lots of comments about the abuse from fans, and Blair in particular. Sorry but I just dont rate the guy, yes he works hard but if you put me on the pitch I'd work hard. I thought he slowed down our attacks, and in front of goal he is indeed ****ing useless! Saying that, abusing him was out of order, the Blue Voice were an embarassment today, slating Evans when I thought he was unlucky with both goals. Maybe it was the West Ham element in there today or just bored kids I dont know. Whole ground was a morgue and I agree I wouldnt feel very motivated to play in front of the home crowd at the moment. Although on the flip side there were some very half hearted performances, and why was Granty the only one who clapped at the end? Wouldve made a much better captain than Easton who if he wasnt captain probably wouldnt be in the team.

Soares and Pato must surely be on their way, both were poor today. Pato never looks when hes playing the ball and has no instinct in front of goal. Soares was just plain dire. Was impressed with Herd (do we really need Gilbert now) and Corr, and Barker did ok but we clearly need more quality in the final third, a couple of wide players who can a) put decent crosses in and b) cut in and shoot on goal. We seem to have an overabundance of defensive players at the moment and nowhere near enough attacking players.

All in all very disappointing and cant see us getting anything against Chesterfield and then a tough trip to Rotherham.

From the OS - "Rhys Evans handed Cheltenham Town a couple of belated Christmas presents as Southend United came crashing back down to earth with a 2-1 defeat at Roots Hall yesterday" - nothing like the club bashing a player through their own website!

I find myself disagreeing with almost all of the above
Soares 7 in particular

............and those of you who think the seagull was MOM are just morons.

It only showed for about 15 mins, was largely static and when it switched to the front was constantly offside.

I did think though that Cheltenham bringing on their sub David Bird was a tad funny.

I shouted foul when the bird brought down their player .... untill my mate corrected me and said it was a seagull not a chicken... I get very confused these days

I think you'll find that's the Echo report hastily pasted onto the club site....

Echo

Yep I bet no one at the club bothered to even read what was in the match report before 'pasting' it onto the official site. Just seen the picture of the first goal as well on the official site next to the match report. An official club match report would not have been so harsh on Evans, well at least there is some truth on the official site for once.
