Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 1-2 AFC Flyde.

Not sure who that was. But we did notice yesterday whilst on the touch line Bentley was Mic’d up with an earpiece and talking to somebody. Everyone else seemed to be on the touch line or in the dug out so must be another watching somewhere.
It was John Still. We were mysteriously sent complimentary tickets for front row of Directors Box yesterday morning. Couldn't understand why but printed the tickets and found the way in to this unfamiliar territory to find 'our' seats occupied by someone I felt I recognised. We were allowed to sit in the nearly empty front row of visiting directors section. After a few minutes I realised who was in 'our" seats and that John Still's name sounds almost identical to mine. Hence the surprise upgrade. It was nice to have a view without pillars to avoid but we will be happy to return next game to our West Stand seats. At least we don't feel constrained from joining in the Martin Out chants there!

Did anyone else in the Directors box sing it?

Maher keeps going on about the players needing rest and they are knackered but it's just an excuse! What I mean is if we wasn't in the position we are in with all the hoopla surrounding the club wouldn't we still be playing Tuesday-Saturday and aren't players paid to play then and haven't they always been? I get if we had a few more players we can make subs but don't footballers want to play in every game?
Not when the are injured you idiot. Under normal circumstances players would taken out and replaced by others In the squad which we simply can’t do

Just love to see you run week in week outwith thinjurys some are carrying And a player on the bench yesterday who should have never been near the pitch So don't talk a load of bollocks

So what was probably my last Roots Hall game!
I would say the players were lethargic and looked tired, which is not surprising due to lack of depth in the squad.
The fans seemed almost the same way. The west stand were trying but it didn’t resonate around the ground as if people are resigned to something catastrophic happening.
Did the players feel that? Not sure but I certainly did.
I love my club and fans.
Thanks RM for stuffing it up for so many.
Luvs youse all!

Too many sub par performances today and the makeshift defence got found out, both goals were down to very weak defending (cheers Ron for putting us in this position where we only have one recognised CB).
I assume Taylor's injured? I can't fathom why else he wasn't brought on.

Biggest disappointments for me were Mooney and Bridge, two attack minded wing backs who offered naff all threat in the final third today, and weren't much help defensively either.

MOM probably Cardwell, he kept going despite limited service. A let down after the high of Tuesday and the fantastic pre match protest march. One to write off as the players will know they're capable of better.
Our man-of-match ?
Not DM this time ! Again he made no saves and might have done better with their first.
Def not Miley ,playing out of position—whom they exploited continually in the first 25 minutes.
Not Cards either—he toils well with very little support up front, but should be scoring more—he fluffed 2 easy chances either side of his goal.
Have to give it to Kensdale who coped reasonably well with their giant forwards.
None of the others played well.

A few thoughts about Saturday's match.
It demonstrated once more the advantage of having pace in the team. Fylde had it in key areas and it had us struggling to cope with it. Poor Cav had a torrid first half with the pacey chap on the right wing. And nobody could catch the guy who raced through to slot number two for Fylde. Cardwell can show a decent turn of pace but Fylde seemed to be blest with several pacey players.
David Martin made a very good save indeed to prevent us going two down and during that period of early Fylde pressure Kensdale headed off the line, again to keep it down to one. And Fylde also passed up at least two more excellent chances to be out of sight by half time.

Vilhete produced a clever dummy and delightful cross which Harry put wide with his diving header in the second half. That was just after he had calmly slotted home his goal after breaking free of his giant keepers. Had the header found the target it might have been a different outcome.

Overall we looked leggy and apparently some are playing with injuries. The size of the squad is finding us out. And with two tough away trips this week it is all looking rather ominous. If Gus, Harry Taylor and Ralph are back that will help.
I recently saw Rochdale win at Kidderminster and was impressed by their quick passing, high pressing game. Sound familiar?
Plenty to ponder on the long drive back to Norfolk. And was that my last ever game at Roots Hall? I still recall very clearly going with my Dad to the opening game at Roots Hall and a 3-1 win against Norwich City. Roy Hollis got at least one if not two goals. Happy, long lost days.

It was the same player Berat Jonathan Ustabasi - 29 year old Turk born in Manchester. Looked like a good old fashioned winger in the first half and they moved him into the centre in the second half.

Yes, mentioned it in my summary. Once Cav started to put a few decent tackles in on him, he switched to pester Demi for much of the game.

Bang on, Cav had a torrid opening spell with Otsabusi. When Cav sussed him out and stood off him, so he could put in a tackle before he had turned and ran away from him, Otsabusi switched to Demi and ultimately scored when Demi was too close.
