Official Match Thread Southend United 1-1 Stockport

Did anyone else notice Uncle Ron on the pitch at the end, breaking free of Brush's weak restraint, to argue the colour of the card with Mr. Kettle?

Ron does it every time we have a problem ref. What can the League do? Ban him from his own ground? A touchline ban? I hope he called him all the C's, W's & B's that we would have loved to have said to his face!!

Maybe Ron could bury the ref under the centre-spot at FF as a warning to all crap refs!! :punch:

View of the sending off from the OS

Four minutes later and Stockport had the numerical advantage, after Harding was sent off for a tackle on the goalscorer McSweeney.

There was sheer disbelief when the referee brought out the red card, as Harding's tackle didn't appear to warrant a sending off.

from my view in the south stand it looked like a late 1 footed challenge, and i thought it was a harsh red that would be overturned if we were a big club, don't know if it will though

And the Stockport OS says,
'Three minutes later McSweeney was on the wrong end of a rash challenge from Dan Harding who recieved a straight red card.'

All OS's are going to report with rose tinted specatcles on, so lets just wait for the highlights then we can make our own informed decisions.

It was a bad challenge and summed up our second half performance as it resulted from us losing possession easily. Sadly, when Trevor Kettle is in charge, you know exactly what colour card he is going to pull out for such a tackle.

good point under the circumstances, thought county looked decent.

from where i sat the red card looked nailed on

sour point,
from 7000 people i had to sit next to a complete div with his insane ranting

I was East Black as ever and the bloke behind me moaned constantly about everything. The goal, Francis, the crowd, coffee, everything. It was a pleasure when he left early.

I was in the East Blacks, and everyone around me was abusing Kettle, but to be honest, although it was probably a yellow as there was no menace, he leapt into the tackle (one he wasnt favourite to win) with one leg and studs up !

Another ref might have been a yellow, but Kettle !

I think its indicative of a lack of discipline in our team.. Dont agree with it, but why give Kettle the chance to send you off.

Draw a fair result so bring on Swindon next week

I was in the East Reds and that was never a sending off. Worse than the Moussa dismissal Vs Brighton.

From my view point he didn't even touch the guy, who went down clutching his ankle and rolling around until the red card was shown then he was back on his feet. I would have agreed with a yellow card if there was any contact, but a straight red for that is embarrasing.

How can their guy not get booked for bringing down Betsy and their centre half not get booked for bringing Barnard down after he turned him, yet the first card that is shown is a red to us.

As I said in the other thread, the challenge was right in front of me and I imagine I had the best view of it of anyone on here. It was not two footed and it was not dangerous. A typical one player getting there before the other tackle that you see every week somewhere in the country. As Brush shouted to Kettle when it happened, it truly was an embarrassing decision. Then again, Kettle has a collection of those.

As for another point about the goal, did anyone else notice that 95% of Stockport's attacks in the 2nd half came down their left, so that the ball kept coming out of the sunlight on that side? Federici struggled terribly with it and I still can't quite understand why we didn't do what they did in the 1st half. Surely it's not rocket science.

We had a red card overturned last year (Richards at Oldham) - and it was from the very same referee T Kettle so there's always a chance if it was a bad decision.

Gut instinct tells me it was a red and i can't see this getting turned over either. I thought it was a two footed lunge and although the opponent wasn't hurt, he could have been if the contact was there. Fairly sure, you won't see much from the highlights as the tackle may not be too clear from the west stand

Maybe the sun wasn't as low in the sky during the first half?
