Cheers Kay. In light of Luggy's comments we decided to move down the front, in the hope more could hear us and join in. Would be interested to hear if the east/south could hear us a bit more?

I thought it worked far, far better. Not only was it louder, but obviously it was much more visible as well and therefore helped create a far better atmosphere.

Deserved the point, a bit of justice to score so late after all that time wasting by their keeper.
We still dont create enough chances and I think Sawyer will help address that, will offer us something diffrent in regards to creativity.
Thought we went off the boil a bit after Corr got injured, surprised he wasn't subbed, he was a virtual passenger for the last 15mins.
Inspired substitutions to bring on Crawford and Moshni up front, not sure why they both got involved with their keeper at the end, sensible for Barker to come over and drag them both away.
Much better team performance this week although no real stand-outs for me. Still a 'work in progress' but can see signs of improvement.

As a side note, Dean Austin was there tonight. Now unless he was part of the rich city group, would it be too easy to suggest that he was watching Grant......

I sit opposite in blues. Normally we can only hear the drum but tonight was a great improvement. Even got the East blues/yellows joining in a few times.

We worked hard in a game of very little quality. Bury I thought were very physical and got away with a fair bit. Really didn't understand why we played the formation we did it looked like grant was playing behind corr upfront with Blair sort of left midfieldish ! Thought at halftime it had 0:0 written all over it to be honest. And moshni up front when we are 1 down ! What was that about ! I know he scored but thought it was a bit of an embarrasment really and got to feel sorry for Crawford who was left on the bench. All in all a point was about right but it was a poor game with the ball mainly in the air. Oh and I would have sodje back compared to our 2 tonight !

Totally agree ; good summary

I sit in East Blues and thought TBV were excellent tonight. We thoroughly deserved at least a point tonight and special credit should go to PS for taking a gamble and putting Mohsni on. We had so many free kicks and corners during the game but nobody made the most of them. I think PS thought hang on a minute we have had so many set pieces around the box what we are missing is somebody to attack these set pieces and unsettle their defence. Enter Mohsni... and the rest is history! Fair play to PS for taking a gamble and it paying off. Tonight is the first time in months I have walked out of RH feeling like I am supporting a team that can go places.

At the start of the season Luggy said we needed to improve our fitness - tonight I thought we showed that. The first half we chased the ball down all over the pitch and were often unlucky not to get a luckier break - and we were still going 5 mins into injury time in the second half. Credit to Luggy, Laurence Bloom and the players.

As for the game, generally we were the better team, but Bury had 4 chances. Twice in the first half Coughlan let him man go - one time we were saved by a **** shot and the other their guy tried to chip Morris who got a half block and Barker I think did excellent to clear. There was Gilberts dodgy back header which resulted in their dude hitting the post. And the fourth chance was the goal, which was a lucky break off a through ball to another player deflecting into the scorers path. Credit to the defence and 2 holding midfielders for not allowing us to ever look like being carved open (except for errors or luck), but also the wingers - notably Hall who covered an incredible amount of ground to help out Clohessy.

In contrast, going forward we didn't look like creating. Blair was wasted on the left wing - his position is dropped off into the hole and he struggled tonight. Corr was OK first half, but never fully recovered from a knock early on in the second half. Grant seemed a bit too far forward for me - he doesn't always have the vision to release the ball at the correct time and with 1 up front he didn't have options. Also, tonight every time he got the ball he was surrounded by 3 players. Hall on the right played well and caused problems, but I don't understand why our wingers play on the wrong side to their best kicking foot - with Corr up front, hit the byline and get crosses in.

Finally the subs - Moshni didn't look out of place up top, some great flicks and a goal - would love him back in CB on Tuesday though. And Sawyer, still has a touch of class about him, a few passes were fantastic tonight - I hope he starts on Tuesday.

Sorry but never rated Efe Sodje - thought he was about as good as neil townsend on a bad day that was obviously apart from when he head butted an opposition player in front of the West Stand can't recall the match but Townseind got sent off

Morris - 6 -- didn't have a great deal to do really.

Clohessy - 6 -- In and out, average display.

Gilbert - 4 -- This guy really grates on my nerves, constantly moaning at everyone around him yet he struggles badly with his own responsibilities, constant hoof balls out of touch, backs off more than Che ever did and almost cost us with an awful attempt at a back header. Someone please explain why Northampton fans were so unhappy to see him go!!

Coughlan - 7 -- reasonably steady display.

Barker - 5 -- felt he was well under par tonight for whatever reason, possibly his worst display for us.

Hall - 6 -- another in and out performace.

Grant - 7 -- Not many footballers would cover the ground Granty did tonight, he was everywhere and worked himself into the ground.

Ferdinand - 7 -- I think this lad may have a bright future, nothing spectacular but just keeps it nice and simple and seems to have great composure for one so young and inexperienced.

Easton - 7 -- quiet 1st half i thought but improved in the 2nd.

Sturrock - 6 -- did what was asked of him in an unfamiliar role for most of the game.

Corr - 6 -- slightly below par tonight i think, one sublime drag back and turn in the 2nd half, unfortunately negated by 'that' miss which probably wasn't as bad as some thought.

Sawyer - 6 -- quiet start for him, full of energy as you would expect but didn't really see enough of the ball, picked up a booking.

Mohsni - 7 -- Put himself about Mohsni style and got the equalizer.

Crawford - n/a -- not fair to rate him, however i would have given him a 10 had he ******* their keeper after the final whistle!!

Also special mention to everybody in W block and some in V block.

The decision was taken to go down the front for this game and it lookes like it worked we had a strong following in W block no interference from the stewards which was nice and nobody moaning about not being able to see in V block looks like we may have just found the right strategy for getting the atmosphere down in the west if not the whole ground.

Well done. It was definitely louder and I think it kind of inspired other parts of the ground. It definitely sounded much louder from the East.

It was also more visible, although not really until the second half when it really picked up (that's not a criticism). I've always maintained that the atmosphere at night games is generally far better than Saturday's.

Really? :stunned: Think you might be in a minority there. Efe used to make one glaring mistake every game, we used to wait for it to be got out of the way but other than that - on the whole - he was an immense player in every way for us.

Moshni made a huge difference up front and looked like he had played there for years. He looks fearsome and will scare the crap out of defenders. His awareness and positioning are good and it's hard to believe he was playing amateur footy last season.

SODJE MAN OF THE MATCH BY A LONG WAY the return of one of the halls legends, bossed the game from start to finish, oh how we could do with efe here, as captain, top man shame you didnt score

You wanted Sodje to score? You are an idiot and your rants and subversive posts on this board are really pointless.

Time to don my tin hat...

I'm astounded with the reaction too be honest, from the fans on the phone in on the radio, to Glenn speller and even sturrock himself.

I've not been to roots hall for a few months, so was really looking forward to it and if that is 'the best half of football possibly of the season' then what on earth have you guys had to put up with recently?

I could understand the logic of trying the away formation at home, but was so negative, making for a really disjointed and dull game against a well organised bury side that lacked any real punch.

I thought at times we were all over the show, had no pattern to our play and were again far to happy to lump it to corr, who was so isolated most of the time. Grant being given a free role would work better away from home, where the home team would be affording us more space for him to operate in. Bury worked out if they stuck 2,3 and sometimes 4 around grant, then we had nothing else.

All in all, didn't enjoy it one bit (bar mohsni of course!) and shan't be in too much of a rush to follow that one up.

Ratings:

Sturrock 5

Sawyer 5
Mohsni 6

We looked much more comfortable and threatening when we changed back to 442 and even more threatening once hall went over to the left.

Concerned with sturrocks tactics as it was obvious (too me anyway) after about 15-20 mins that we needed to change things to get anything from the game, even swapping hall and sturrock for a while would have showed some awareness of what was going on...

Some interesting comments following what I thought was a promising display last night. The point was fully deserved and the support in the ground was good. For the first time for a long time we played as a team. Whatever the concerns about the formation we deployed, I thought we kept our shape well, moved offensively and defensively as a unit and altogether looked much more aware of each other. Bury were a decent and well organised team and I thought both Coughlan and Barker did well without being spectacular. What Coughlan doesn't have in speed he makes up for by his ability to read the game.

Whilst no one was outstanding on the night, and this is not a criticism, I was impressed with the energy and speed with which players worked hard to close Bury down- with the exception of Gilbert who I think is a glaring weak link in defence. He doesn't seem to close his man down, offering them too much space and the opportunity to press him back into our penalty area. As has been said, his header back to Morris was a schoolboy area which highlighted his lack of awareness of what is going on around him.

Easton was excellent, I was impressed with Ferdinand's strength and composure before he began to tire and I thought we genuinely tried to play football until the dying minutes when we played 'Route 1' in our search for an equaliser.

By the way, from my position in South Upper it looked like Sodje contrived to kick Mohsni in the head as he lay on the floor and Sodje walked past him. A nasty bit of petulance that is unworthy of an otherwise good player. Did anyone else see this?

All in all, a good performance that I think augurs well for the future. Well done lads.

Well no doubt it was the best we have played at home all season but it was not excellent. The ref was up and down likme a tarts draws one minute he saw things next he did not. MoM was never Hall it had to be Coughlan he bossed things very well and ran his socks off. If not him then Grant next best. The sub of bringing on Moshni was interesting to say the least! It made sense to put him up front as having not played for so long at the back he could have been risky (more than usual!), he lit things up on a cold night and scored a goal!
As for TBV please go back to the back of stand or get agreement to go over the wall alongside to next block. That dam drum did my head in I pay for my seat and have done for many years and like the position but to be battered by the drum being so close all evening was a nightmaare. I support what you are trying to do just ask it be elsewhere as us season ticket holders chose our seats to be where we are.... sorry as I say I do suppport what you do,
