Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-2 Leceister City

This is the view of one of my customers who is a Leicester City fan:

Hi

Yes - a very enjoyable day on Saturday - although saw nothing of
Southend itself - straight off the coach into the ground and straight
back on again at the end !

Thought in the first half Southend were by far the better team - infact
one of our worst performances of the season ! I thought it was a penalty
at the time and having seen it again on TV it looked fairly clear cut.
Once we took the lead then we seemed fairly comfortable after that. We
were right behind the goal so good to be so close to the action and the
celebrations at the end !

If Southend can keep that team together and perhaps add a few in the
summer then I think they could have a good season next year.

Regards

Andrew

Can I just say that the pass by Barnard for Theo's chance was amazing, very similar to something Elano did for Man City against Hamburg shame Theo couldn't finish it off though!

Absolutely agree, all the people saying that Barny did "nothing" are so incorrect, he actually provided the best bit of set up play of the entire game with the flick to Theo ....

The problem is we set up stall with Barny as the target man, which is massively unfair on him. He is a poacher , yet ends up 'trying' to win flick on's etc from clearances and also throw on's.

What, you are saying he is miles better than Dervite? Dervite has transformed our season, not Clarke. Clarke was an integral part of the defensive shambles earlier in the season.

I wouldn't worry about how we are going to replace him if he does go, Blackpool seemed to manage just fine.
Clarke has proved himself to be a 2nd centre half, someone who only plays well when a better, more commanding defender is there to hold his hand alongside him. We already have Barrett who can play that role. The priority this summer is to find a dominant centre half in the Dervite mould, not to keep hold of Clarke.

If you slide off of your high horse, I said OUR defender, meaning contracted to us.

mildy - 6 decision making very dodgy today, couldnt do anything about the goals. kicking poor.

francis - 2 very very very poor. light jogging througout the whole game. not sure if he is awar what marking a player means??

dorian - 7 solid, not a lot to say about him

clarke - 7 same as dorian, one great great challenge.

barrett - 6 not a left back

betsy - 6 did his best but not good enough, very nervous taking anyone on

moose - 6 didnt do a lot right or wrong

christophe 7 was playing very decent, used strengh very well

macca 6.5 did some usefull bits around the pitch but knocked off the ball too easily at times.

barney 5 did nothing all game

theo 6 start brightly and should have scored 2nd half, put on the wing and did his best there but wrong decision to put him on the wing.

subs:

grant - can't judge

laurent - 6 looked ok but not on long

freedman - 1.5 looked like he couldnt be bothered, seriously didnt see him run, him and barney are a terrible partnership.

Think you forgot this one

East stand blacks 8.

Played well considering they had to watch their backs for half the game.

We looked better after half time when Tilson switched Christophe from being the holding midfielder which is why we looked like scoring but then got injured sadly ;(
But can someone please can what Macca actually brings to the team? Im not being horrible but I apart from being a average holding midfielder what else he is good at?

your response says it all... the truth hurts!

Not at all, newest member of the "OBL Out" FB group, as usual you have misinterpreted my post - and I am preventing myself from saying what I would normally have let forth with at such an obvious invitation.

i only joined because i bet Scott he couldn't get more than 20 people!

i think Macca is a limited footballer but he's the only one who can currently drive the team forward... hopefully in the future Granty will progress and I can see Macca perhaps having to play the Petts role out wide with Grant and Moussa in the centre

Yes, you did say that the other day, and I think it is probably a role that would suit him. Just don't see anyone at the club just now who can play the role other than him. Moussa isn't ready imo, and Grant and Jeff are better defensively.

Moussa is too lightweightat the moment & doesn't work for 90 minutes like Macca or Grant. with a small squad you cannot afford to have "luxury" players like Moussa when they only work for short bursts. Moussa has talent but no application, which is proven by his lack of willingness to stay out wide when he's meant to be a wide left player.

Macca may have seemed more defensive this season, but I'm guessing they're his instructions from Tilly to sit infron of the back 4. We have shipped less goals since he came back.

but then Moussa has set up plenty of goals this season (especially in the 2nd half) and has scored a couple too

maybe so & so have most players. Moussa isn't a 90 minute player. He's a Hoddle or Le Tissier type player, but not as good! Yet!!!
