Yes I think we would be stronger that side plus Demetriou got a goal in himDemetriou (who has often played midfield in the past) could be moved there to accommodate John White at right-back.

Our first shot (over the bar) was on 42 minutes. We didn't have a single shot on target.
The most alarming thing was we did not press the ball at all. At one point, 1-0 down, Fleetwood were just invited to knock it around the back and stroll into our half. Cox tried to press but you can't do it alone, you need to hunt in pairs. It doesn't need to be two strikers but in the past Timlin has been excellent at this.
There is no physicality. The midfield of O'Neill, King, Leonard and McLaughlin are just too weak. There's nobody there who's going to let someone know they're in a game. Set pieces are a waste of time going forward and if the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again with the same result, Ryan Leonard's long throws are insane.
We were crying out for someone like Fleetwood's Pond. A right **** but won everything in the air and absolutely shrugged off anyone of our players that dared to challenge him (rare). He's not that good of course, get him turned on the floor and I suspect you've got him, but I think the first time Simon Cox got the ball into his feet in a decent position was 61 minutes in.
Our first shot (over the bar) was on 42 minutes. We didn't have a single shot on target. The players are playing with absolutely zero confidence or belief. There are two clues to this - hiding from wanting the ball and snatching at shots. We did both an awful lot yesterday.
Not the worst I've ever seen, will take something special to top Boston 0-2 in 2003, but it was close.
Four home games, three goals. Two goalkeeping errors and a penalty, and we've rarely looked like creating any actual chances. Most depressing 90 minutes for a while, thank heavens I am missing the next two home games.
Yesterday again showed our lack of options in midfield,Deegan is a good example of a player with bite in midfield when things are physical or not going your way...so Brown gets rid of the only type of player apart from Timlin who does this role.
The best part of Saturday is that I was just getting past the Harry on London road as the final whistle went on the radio.
Hope you were booing loudly at the radio.

Is Brown the answer? Well I don't think we will get anyone higher profile and he is a decent manager with great contacts which has and will help us.
I'm in Tallinn..:hello:
(Though I may not be PB's staunchest supporter).
I don't think I have ever watched a Southend team with so little confidence, ideas or worst of all, passion. Not just passion for the club but for the game its self. It was pitiful. That was my sons second game, sorry lad, sorry.
Not sure about getting rid... it will only be a short term fix.
We're not going to get anyone better than Brown.

How exactly are you measuring/defining "better" when it comes to replacing Brown? You're obviously using very different criteria to mine.
I'm being careful not to specify a pro or anti-Brown stance ......... but I reckon that there are a bucket load of managers/candidates out there who may (or with time, may not) be rather good for Southend United.
I might be wrong but I would suspect that there would be 30+ names coming forward were Ron to take out an advert for a new manager in The Big Issue next week.
I just can't get my head around people saying we can't do better than Phil Brown, and I'm struggling to see what some people would see as being "better".
Yes he has Prem experience, a media reputation and some contacts, but at the moment that's not what we need. What we need is something as basic as you can get from a football manager - the ability to endear himself to his squad, to get them on his side, to make them want to play for him, to be able to motivate them and allow them to play their football with freedom and smiles on their faces. Basic human qualities.
That is how I'd gauge a new manager as "better" than Brown.....nothing particularly technical. And honest to God, I really don't think that finding someone who is "better" in these areas would be difficult.
In a nutshell, I don't quite see how anyone can think we can't do any better when it's clear to see that Brown has lost the dressing room. How on earth can we not do any better than that right now?
