Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-0 Hartlepool United

Teams know that if they get behind the ball then we’ll just pass it around in front of them and that’s the frustrating thing, our style is so predictable. The amount of times that Taylor or Ralph travelled forward with the ball and then inexplicably turned and passed backwards with no opposition in front of them was infuriating. There seems to be little urgency to score a goal.

On the plus side I can’t help but think that Kendall has a hint of the Freddy about him….. 🤔

Didn’t go to this game for the precise reason was that I knew the best result we would get today would be a 0-0. Pools have been resurgent and solid under their new coaching set up, meaning we obviously weren’t gonna score and that meaning the best on offer was 0-0 which is what we got.

Post match thread is the same every week. Poor team playing poor football.

As I’ve said before, I love Kev and all he has done for the club and he does deserve the chance to get it right and swing the tide but ffs this is becoming painful.

Make peace with the fact we will be mid table at best this season and you won’t be let down every weekend 👍🏻

The most telling moment was in about the 90th minute where a ball was played down the channel to Bonne who got there and looked up to see 5 light blue shirts in the box and not a single navy one within 30 yards.
This has been obvious ever since we have been in this league. Far too many lightweight and defensive minded midfielders. Has any of them ever ran beyond the strikers or even joined in with them when we attack. The league table doesn't lie. Lack of physical strength and pace in most areas of the team. It is all so disappointing and getting worrying. We look a million miles away from getting out of this league.

Is the GSM injury a real injury or just keeping him fit until Jan 1st when he is most likely off?

Just seems way too convenient. Or maybe im just a cynic.

Today was poor, Kev summed it up perfectly - we do not take enough risks, we take the safe pass option too often.

And don't shoot enough.

Part of the problem is the movement of players in front of the ball is not great. You need someone to pass to. Bonne and Kendall’s movement was good and that enabled some opportunities- but then the support didn’t follow once the got on the end of it. Our problem isn’t up top- its in the midfield I would include the wingbacks in that as early quality balls into the box aren’t exactly standard fare…

Giving the insistence if playing 5 at the back at least 2 of the midfielders need to be forward thinking, passing, driving - if we ever see morton/Miley base with KAF and Coker I think we might get a different result

Agreed. Also agreed that Bonne and Kendall gave us more up top. They looked like they could be a good combination.

It's rare in my humble opinion to see both sides of a debate so clearly and have no issue with either side.
Side one Kev has more than earned time, support and just one summer transfer window signing players in a normal fashion he's a massive reason we still have a club at all. Obscene commitment 👏
However we are dishing up some absolute dross, in no way do i look forward to watching us at the mo.
Seeing family and friends is the good bit.
Crowds will dwindle be in no doubt its painful.

Oh steady on...

Frustrating game I would say from both sides. 0-0 about right with both sides hitting the post and neither otherwise testing the keepers. First half was Hartlepool and the second ours. That’s three games in this calendar year we’ve played and three 0-0. Thought Hartlepool were a big strong side with the number 20 in partivcular impressive but mostly we coped quite well. Wind had a couple of shaky moments but by and large did well on his full home debut. Morton was the pick of the midfield playing some lovely long balls. Gave the ball away on occasion but don’t mind that as at least he was trying to be progressive. Don’t think either Husin or Moncur did enough. Hope to see Coker back in alongside Morton next week. Up front Walker again did little although his run second half deserved a goal. But feel he is better in a front three. Bim wasn’t the same after getting cleaned out by the keeper, for me he got to the ball first but that was on first showing and not seen it since. Bonne and Kendall looked sharp when they came on, can see what Kendall has to offer in the short time he was on and unlucky not to score. So frustrating in one hand but a decent point in another. Onto York next week that might suit us better. Would like to see Golding start and Ralph out to LWB, Bridge although better today just isn’t producing. Otherwise maybe Maher may try 4-3-3.

Moncur, Husin, KAF (I think was the trio) away at Solihull looked decent, don't think it's been tried since!

Moncur just looked like a lost soul today and not sure where he should be and what he should be doing - if we are going to play him we need to give him the ball!

has he been caught fly tipping? 😀

Does appear this season is starting to stall..... I doubt we will go down but we won't be challenging for the play offs. Maher ball is racid and I agree with some posters he won't get us out this league. If COSU decide to stick with Maher then they have to give him bigger budget to recruit players, what we currently have isn't good enough. We need to be bringing in better quality than we have done so far, if it means paying better wages then so be it. Currently we are getting outbid by the likes of Woking for players which is concerning and shows lack of ambition.
