Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-0 Hartlepool United

I genuinely don’t know myself but I’m also not sure management know the best 11 at the moment. Ive been critical at times of tactics and selection and even how players have performed but realistically today showed where we are after some years of real adversity.

I thought we might kick on this year but again we was hamstrung to start with so mid table will likely be fair unless by some miracle we get a really decent run going.

I’d happily send Moncur back, he offers little and I think he takes away from our other attacking players. Equally if Pepple is nailed on to go back, I’d have him out of the team and start the players who are going to remain, build those partnerships.

We seriously lack creativity and have done all year. That is what needs addressing. That likely is the key to turning the draws to wins!

Today was summed up by the best bit being their goalkeeper being a crank!!

It's basics, and it starts with movement off the ball....spoiler alert there is none.
Noor, moncur especially just stood on the spot. Players look up to pass forward most of the time.....nothing on because they are imitating statues.
That's coached though, surely?
It's a team being told to maintain it's shape, not to play with fluidity? Because if they were being told to play with fluidity, the coach would surely be going mental at them for not doing so?

Going nowhere fast with the current management at the wheel. They deserve the season and the start of next given loyalty etc, but we’re woefully inconsistent which is not a recipe for getting back into the EFL.
And that's where we are unfortunately. They do deserve the season, and I don't think for one minute they'll get us relegated, but we're way off the pace compared to the better sides in the league and there's simply no appetite from our management team for making any sort of change. It's the same football that it's been for 3 years which has only ever finished us mid table.

As everyone has said, an uninspiring game to go with countless other uninspiring games this season. Whilst I’m not in the Maher out camp yet I am moving ever closer. Yes he has been hamstrung by off field events but his team selections and tactics are becoming very questionable.

Coker has been the pick of the midfield recently but confined to the bench for Husin, who has been poor all season, and Moncur who has shown nothing since his first few games. Bonne and Pepple have shown to be forming a decent partnership but that’s been broken for a Walker / Pepple which hasn’t worked…(has Pepple scored the majority of his goals alongside Bonne ? )

I’m not convinced we have the right fit players to be effective as a 5 3 2, when we’ve changed to a 4 3 3 we have offered a lot more. I appreciate that this may not work for all games but it seems to have been ditched again.

The whole team just feels like it’s scared of losing instead of looking to win. I don’t think it’s the players, there is a good enough core there to be much higher in this league …so that stops with the management. I do feel sorry for our strikers, all this ‘can't hit a barn door’ comments are harsh ..they aren’t ever fed any opportunities …playing is this team their conversion rate would need to be near on 100% to score anything !

Boring game, neither team deserved anything. With 0-0 being a fair result.

Collin - 7 didn’t really have much to do
Wind - 6 ok I guess - but looks average
Ralph - 7 probably one of the better ones today
Taylor - 6 again not troubled
Crowther - 7 dealt with their big fwd pretty well
Bridge - 6 worked hard but little quality in the box
Morton - 6 ok
Husin - 5 shadow of the player last season
Moncur - 4 awful. I would be quite happy to send him back to O’s
Pepple - 6 worked hard but no service
Walker - 5 no service and missed our best chance

Thoughts Coker, Bonne & Kendal looked okay when they came on.

Ref - didn’t have any hard decisions to make but somehow missed a poor challenge on Wind & another or Bridge.

This.

Today we’ve had four strikers on the pitch at various points.
Walker had a shot that hit the post which he should have done better with.
Did Bim get a shot away?
Kendall had a shot early on from the Bonne cross, was that it?
Bonne had a header at the near post from a corner, but hard to see from east blues if it was a shot or not.

Hardly being served chances on a plate

Almost instantly forgettable. poor ref who gave us nothing, not the first time when Bridge was shoved off the pitch, only gave next as 4th official told him. Didn't see the numerous grapples and shirt pulling/holding of Bim or the coonstant climbing, elbow hits to Bim either.
Rarely does a ball hit the post and spin right across the gaping goal and then behind yet Walker did it today like Bridge did a few games back; we aren't getting much luck.
The subs improved the team, released Noor to get forward, Bonne did well and with some luck Kenndall might have scored with his first touch.
Rubbish game.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again, we will not get out of this league with Maher in charge.
I’m afraid this is where we will be forever under Maher….poor old KAF can’t get a look in over Husin then hebgets replaced by like for like Miley. What a waste of time it is watching this dross. The odd decent performance papers over the cracks then return to type, Maher needs to step down as he clearly never acts on momentum
