Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-0 Braintree Town

Lets face it, at at time when Goodliffe was restricted to substitutions, going back a while, we had Golding and an on fire Kendal with a fresh faced Parillon tearing up teams. Golding got injured for weeks, Kendal injured for weeks and Parillon struggled to make it near 75mins.

We looked fantastic, other players responded around them. KAF formed a great partnership with Parillon, ripping up the central attack and forcing defenders into shapes they feared.

Now we have no Golding, a recovering Kendal that gets 10mins or so, KAF on the bench and Parillon stuck out wide.

Morton, Noor, Taylor, Coker, these players are now the ones seeing the ball a lot and dictate our play.

I for one am really pleased we have spent the week practising attacking play, I'm just wondering when we will employ them in a match.
One goal in 270 minutes and one point from two home does not make a play-off team.
Absolutely does my head in when on the rare occasion that we get a decent cross in or have a shot, no striker is getting in where it hurts or looking for the rebound/ save. That is your job as a striker. That’s where the goals come from when a game is tight.

KM is the non league Big Sam. Will keep you up and is great to have for the tough times but will never get the club to reach the highs we can. Thanks Kev but time to move on and for someone to come in to move us onwards and upwards.

Mayer has to go !!!!!!!!!!!! incapable of changing tactics when we need a win or when we are struggling forward off forward on , midfielder off midfielder on like for like WOW. You never thought we HAD to win, as has been said he will be happy with 0-0.

It would be fitting for Kev’s upcoming testimonial match (overdue and deserved) to be a 0-0 snoozathon. We’ll probably get a thrilling goal fest ! 😆

As for the game. Nothing to add to the above. Next season has to be make or break

1..2..3......That's one goal, two points in three games...I've been going to Roots Hall since 1966 and although I'm now old and exiled in Sussex, I still bring the grandsons up when I can for half a dozen or so home games a year. Maybe we've been unlucky, but this is the lowest goal to game ratio I've ever seen and if we don't win against Wealdstone (the last game this season I'm bringing them to) it will be the first season in 58 years that I've not seen us win a game.... Yes, of course I'm glad we still have a club when there were so many times it looked like we may not, but the quality has been, oh so, disappointing, especially when you consider the crowd numbers we've brought to the Hall. I've been lucky enough to see us win 5-1 against Chester twice, 7-0 against Workington, 6-1 against Exeter, 5-0 against Bradford PA and Port Vale, many 4 goal home victories, not forgetting the 9-0, 7-0 and 10-1 FA Cup wins. I can only hope we get three points and some goals next Saturday or an unwanted milestone will be sunk in my Blues supporting life. So I'm asking the team to put the same passion and drive into that game that we supporters bring to Roots Hall. Is that too much to ask....? We shall see.
I'm of a similar vintage. Started in 1968 with my dad. Took my daughter's and now my grandsons. I think the grandsons have the bug, but I'm surprised at how accepting they are of recent performances. Talking to them on the way home, I realized their expectations are just so much lower. They have seen so few convincing wins they just enjoy the match day atmosphere. How I wish they had seen Billy Best and Gary Moore when they first started.

Living on the west coast of the US, 3pm kickoffs start at 7am my time. For years, I’ve been setting my alarm and either watching or listening to games. I cherish a lay in but watching my team seemed more important. This season, I just can’t be bothered. Gutless, clueless and negative football - give me an extra couple of hours in bed.

I've not read through all the posts but for me it seems apparent what will happen next season. Am I in agreeance? probably no.
Maher will be given the chance to sort things with some token signings, this will be because we have signed some absolute donkeys on long term contracts, Hopper No.1. So not much room for getting rid of and replacing.
So bearing this in mind, there will be little money
for improvement. So where does this leave us?
For me, a half decent squad that is totally under performing.
So for the first time I'm starting to think that the management team is just not up to it.
9500 is just waisted on this dross.

Not a North Banker but thought I'd try it today. Top atmosphere, almost non stop singing despite little encouragement from the pitch, great effort by all involved.
Must have last visited that area about 25 years ago, not much has changed .... bar the bogs, what an improvement.
That's my match report. Not sure I missed anything out.

That is exactly how i felt prior to my holiday and enjoyed the break from it in truth.

I think Morton has had an easy ride tonight. Can’t take a decent set-piece, can’t shoot, passing is abysmal. It wasn’t long ago on here people were making out he was the complete midfielder.
Currently he is a big part of the problem. I would go as far as to say I would rather have a good 45 minutes out of George Moncur each game. At least he had something a bit different.

Love a bit of post match hysteria!
COSU need to dig deep into their pockets and back the squad as well as the stadium or we will experience more of the same next season.
The coaching staff were getting just as frustrated as you and I with certain players today, I lost count of how many times I heard the comment “play forward”.
Remarkably the season is still not quite over, but I say again invest as much money in the squad or the fans will vote with their feet.

I’m not sure it’s digging that deep. But we need 3-4 proven performers at this level at least who are at the top of their game. A fee or two perhaps- but the last two games show the potential support, and whatever extra outlay it takes to be competing for the top 3 will likely come back through the turnstiles.
