I've just read that we currently hold the record for most points accrued in a season by a relegated team - 54 points in 88/89. This record will go should Barnsley or Peterborough avoid defeat this weekend.

We also have the Football League record for most missed penalties in a row (seven).

Any other records held by Southend that anyone knows about? NB being the only team in Essex does not count.

Didnt Bramble miss about 3 on the spin one season before someone else took over & carried that run on?

Iirc the manager at the time of the record said the player who scores will take them all in the future. The player who did score to end the record (was it Dean Austin? ) then missed the next one

Tes and Dean Austin never played together. Deano was long gone and playing for Spurs before Bramble turned up, possibly not even at Spurs any more by then

Yeah a bit of a misquote. .I was referring to the run of 7 penalty misses which I thought was earlier than Tes

Just checked 28th Sept 91 was the 7th penalty miss

The only club in FA cup history to have 2 players each score hat-tricks in consecutive rounds (Billy Best & Gary Moore in 1968 I think it was).

Surprised we got in the box that much to win so many penalties to be honest.......

Austin was the first player to miss, and also the player who scored the 8th.

Oh and another one:

Southend's 3 draws in the 2002/03 season equalled the record for fewest draws in a 46 game season.

Good call; I had heard that one now you mention it. We share the record with Reading, although in their case, it was a brilliantly successful season (over 100 points) rather than a really lame one.
