We had a similar one once. Our cleaner took a week's holiday and we agreed with the agency that she wouldn't be replaced just for one week. When she didn't turn up in the second week we rang the agency to find that she had quit. What irked us was not that she had quit - she's entitled to do so - but that the agencydidn't send anyone else. We therefore told the agency that we would find our own cleaner. It was a real shame because she was unbelievably good.
Anyway, about a week after that our old cleaner turned up on our doorstep and explained that she hadn't quit, but had been sacked. She explained the even though we were paying the agency £8/h she was only being paid £4/h. Because she was earning so little she took a second job working evenings. When the agency found out they sacked her.
We then took her on, and paid her £7/h, and she stayed with us for about 3 years until another family in the area took her on as a full time house keeper. I'm not surprised they did that because she was so good.
