Sutton Who

First XI
For anyone who wasn't at the game, or who was at the game and wants to see it again here it is

A good save but not a great one.

Generally speaking Smith fists and parries practically all the saves he makes and last night the percentages worked out for him. I'd sooner have a keeper who can actually hang on to the ball when making a save more often than not. Perhaps this is why he rarely comes from a cross. He simply isn't used to hanging onto the football. He's a parrier, blocker, puncher, nudger, deflecter and not too fly when it comes to tipping. So he'll never be a reliable keeper. Conditions were still last night. When the wind blows his style means trouble.

Just hope this means people will get of his back now and get behind him.
One great game does not make him a great keeper , but equally neither do his faults make him an awful one.
He is a League 2 goalie doing his best , and is currently our No 1 , that's enough for me.

Yeah he should have caught it.

With the balls we use now, ie lighter and move more in the air, its far more likely any keeper will parry the ball away than catch it.

Its where they parry it to that determines if its an error.

Keepers should be expected to catch crosses, not shots.

Yeah he should have caught it.
Not saying all shots should be caught. But some should - Like the ball never moved around or swerved in the old days - Duh. Smith catches almost nothing and your comment gives him license to continue. I wonder what goalkeepers of old would make of the some of today's keepers who rarely catch the ball - wimps comes to mind. At least sometimes catch the ball smith. And how spectacular a parry looks compared to a catch.

Well done Smith. Hope all these so called Southend supports get off your back.
Smith most probably felt comfortable at a ground he knew and with supporters that got behind him when he was their Goalie. Was great that Brentford supporters named him MOM.
