A combination of great defending and keeping is the reason for all the clean sheets we have kept to say mainly down to defenders is wrong imo there a unit of 5 who do there best to contribute to keepin the ball out of the net so imo its a great defensive effort from the back. 5 not just defenders or not just smith.

Serious question, are you related to Smith? No shame in defending a family member, infact I admire the lengths you go to, to defend him.

And before the itchy-trigger-fingered mods (Jam man) close this thread, citing abuse/going nowhere, I'm asking a genuine question. I'm intrigued

Sorry, don't buy that at all. Smith has been fortunate to have VERY good defenders in front of him, Phillips and Cresswell, in particular, have intervened plenty of times to save Smith having to do anything, often because they couldn't rely on a shout from him. He's had clean sheets as a result of our excellent defensive play on more occasions than because he's had outstanding games in my book.

I'd be worried if he were behind 2 inexperienced centre backs. I've seen Cresswell & Phillips both bark orders at him.

If you feel you have to protect a post from the mods, chances are you're getting into iffy territory.

As for Jam Man? He's far from trigger-fingered and does a great job. Keep the threads on track, post in the right forums, steer away from abuse, add value rather than going out of your way to **** others off... job done.

People don't seem to understand.

Smith is told to kick to the wings, so if a defender heads off we are in their half! That's why the players clap every kick he takes even if there are none of our players challenging for the ball!

That is the instruction he is so clearly given, it's not his fault if our players aren't there to challenge!
This..........

Not related a fan and thats it im just statin my opinion that our clean sheets are down to smith. and the defence fact not just cresswell and phillips who have both been immense this season. This continued thing against me regardin my liking of paul smith is getting not nice all i do is state my thoughts i apologize if certain people dont agree. This is a friendly forum but from time to time can be not nice to be involved in.

Come on Smithy , chin up mate.
Don't let them get to you.
Good luck for tomorrow....................................:winking:

Smith is clearly a decent keeper. Up until the last 3 games he was in great form especially against Brentford and Orient away but since then he has gone back into his old self and the form seems to have gone.

He's a great shot stopper but coming for crosses and coming off his line he is very dodgy, his kicking also can be very poor. He's definately a confidence player and either has an amazing game or a shocker. Lets hope tomorrow he has a good one!!!

Dont be so sensitive, it was all fair when you said this to Wiggy......

as much as i respect your opinion your talkin utter toss yet again

But when someone disagrees with YOU and your strong opinions, you feel victimised!?

It's more than a liking fella. It's bordering on obsessive. I like Tomlin, I like Prosser and I like Timlin but I don't bang on like you. There are a lot on here who realise what Paul Smith is about now. Good shot stopper, poor at everything else. We have to face facts. He isn't the 3rd best keeper in L2 no matter how many times you say it.

Reminds me of Alan McCormack and a certain regular on here. Not saying any names though :winking:

Dude, I hope your tongue's firmly in your cheek!?

If Neil's been coming out all Smithy-eyed and bushy tailed, you're his comic book arch nemesis. Your 'where's he standing, what hand is he using' obsession with Smith's perceived inadequacies has shown every bit of the same unbending determination.

And I reckon there are a lot more who don't bother with this site because of it's often black and white nature (see Bilel Moshni). EVERYTHING else? Poor old Smiffy. Good job he's got Neil24 to fight his corner.

After being at the game for the 1st leg , last night i got round to watching the game on tv ...its strange how quickly people forget that if Paul Smith hadnt produced his man of the match performance then we would already be about 4 down + out of the tie.

Just sayin' .....

Keep em out tonight Smiffy UTB !
