Small Wall ,small Goalkeeper .

Watching Collis in the knock up should give you a clue!

Well, i like to form my opinions on a bit more than a warm up. My comments on flavs are based on what i've seen since he's been at the club. (which is quite a lot as a season ticket holder).

Collis needs to be given a chance on Tuesday. I am not one to get annoyed but i'll be bloody cross if Daryll plays. I've seen Collis play a few times and he is a bloody good keeper, he needs a chance and wiggy, people will respect your opinion slightly more if you didn't say they had small brains.

Tilly did say in his post match interview that Flavs is complaining that his groin is sore. Admittedly it might not be linked to the match but hey. ;) So there is a slight chance Collis might get his chance I suppose.

The whole coming for crosses never used to bother me and I did think it was blown out of proportion, but I'm now getting frustrated by it myself. The save he made at point blank range early on yesterday should never have had to have been made, because he should have come and claimed the free kick anyway.

He came for more yesterday than he usually does.

I don't know.... I'm more than aware of the huge flaws in his game but he does make up for most of them with his shot-stopping and every time we've dropped him in the past he's forced his way back in. Or rather his replacement hasn't shown himself to be any better overall.

Sadly Collis hasn't had that opportunity yet.

I really dont see why we should be replacing Flahavan on that performance.

The freekick went in against the post so I wasnt at the time surprised he didnt reach it.

The rest of his game was fine apart from a couple of dodgy kicks.

If we start chopping and changing keepers just because they didnt save a free kick thats hardly going to build confidence.

Not just for "that free kick". I've wanted Collis to be given a decent run in the side for quite a while. As much as I like Flavs for his shot-stopping skills I despair of his inability to command his area. So my personal preference would be to have a taller keeper who will come for more crosses and, hopefully, not need to use his shot-stopping skills as he'd have cut out the initial ball anyway.

If this is the case it would seem a perfect opportunity to give collis a run out in a cup game without the perception of flavs being dropped.

Sitting in the south upper right behind the Goal you could see that we was in Big Danger from that free kick .Apart from Harrold ,the rest of the wall looked so small and inviting to an Orient player to dink it over .Our Small Goalie then makes things a lot worse by not standing in the centre of the Goal so that which ever side he shoots ,he can get to ,instead he stands towards his right and leaves 2/3rds of the Goal to aim at and has a lot of us pointing to where the Ball is now going to go as he is not Superman and will not get across quickly enough ,I would think that 99% of football fans would say that Thornton is now going to aim it just inside Darryl's left post .Every Goalie should know that it is only when you have a Tall Wall do you rely on them to cover part of the Goal so that you can go to the other side more .

''UNBELIEVABVLE'' ,he's only gone and done exactly the same thing against Leeds for Thompsons free kick .
I know he made a couple of brilliant saves yesterday but he was also again ,so easily beaten .It seems that any team that can get 5 or more shots on target against us will definately score at least once .Last season was his worst ever for us but he seems to be undropable .Collis may not be the answer but he came in the other night and did the business after waiting a whole Year patiently ,even tho the Goals were flying in against Darryl .Tilly has always said that if a squad player comes in and plays really well then he will keep his place for the time being .This rule seems not to apply with our Goalkeepers .

Have you had enough of Darryl's Short comings ?

Over the last Year

Shot stopping = 9

One on One's = 3

Crosses = 4

Lining up a wall = 3

Saving dangerous free kicks = 2

Kicking = 5

Communication = 3

Commanding his area = 2

Hard to beat = 4

Home = 5

Away = 3

We all like him ,have myself spoken to him and he really is a top bloke ,never shirks the Fans ,but for the sake of Southend United ,is it time to drop him ? ,I'm sure it would do him good and he would come back stronger .
