Sleeping pills on a plane

Me and one of my mates were talking about this the other day and neither of us know the law surrounding this, so does enyone on here know?

Basiclly it's like this, I cannot stand long haul flights. Every long haul i've ever been on, has been sheer agony. Anyway, when speaking to my mate about this years Vegas trip, he suggested taking sleeping pills. Now, having never taken sleeping pills, it's fair to say i know jack **** about them.

Is there a law saying i cannot take them on board? Is there any medical advice against taking them? How long will i be KO'd for etc etc.

Any advice???

I've taken sleeping tablets with me before. As long as they're in a dispensary box/packet/bottle with dosage on you should be fine. These are obviously prescription ones and I'm not sure how you stand about actually taking them on a flight - although mine knock me out for about 5 hours so can't see any major issue once you're established in the journey. I mean, if you crash land over the sea, I don't think people will be too worried about waking you!

If you're talking about taking something as a sedative, then there are a few options, but I find ordinary travel sickness tablets are as good as anything - you'll be drowsy for about an hour, then drop off for a couple.

Why is it agony? Ear pains, DVT or just crap on the television?

I usually pre-empt my long haul fights with staggered sleep and well-positioned drinks. Stay up late before the flight so that you're knackered when you get on and a couple of large glasses of red wine will do the rest.

The problem with sleeping pills is that they can be very diffiicult to shake off, so you might find that your first day in Vegas is spent in a fuzzy stupor. Though I believe that's the idea anyway, isn't it?

Firstly i'm a smoker, so all you smokers can relate with me here.
Secondly, because i'm a fidgitter. I can't help it, i can never get comfortable

I wouldn't mind taking some pills that would KO me about 5 hours or something like that.

Electronic Cigarette, my mate did it on the way to Ibiza. Some airlines will let you and some won't. But as it is not illegal like smoking is you might get away with it. The bloke next to me at Roots Hall smokes his one all the time during the game.

Some Belgian ******s did this while I tried to get some zzz on a Air China flight. The stewardesses didnt know what to do. I'd advise getting your headphones, sticking them on the jazz channel. Nice.

Just drink on the plane.

It affects you something like 3 times more than normal. Couple of the little bottles of wine, some spirits and a few largers and you'll be well away.

And probably £30 down with the prices of them beverages!

have a w**k early on in the flight, should calm you down a bit, and use up some energy

Ah, the solo branch of the Mile High club. I've never had the courage to apply. I'm really freaked out about the way those toilets flush. Call me a coward, but I just don't want my todger getting ripped off and deposited somewhere in the foothills of Kazakhstan.

It's perfectly legal to take sleeping pills on a flight, many pilots take them.

I'd avoid too much alcohol. One of my mates is a little bit scared of flying so decided to have a few red wines to calm his nerves. Unfortunately he calmed them a little too much, got into an arguement with the people in front of us and was threatened with not being allowed back on the flight after our stop in Florida on the way to mexico.

In addition to the excellent ideas already suggested, do several laps of the departure lounge and a load of pressups, to wear yourself out; have a few beers with laudanum chasers and buy a biography by some **** celebrity - I suggest one of the spice girls.

You'll be slumped in your chair, completely out of it, dribbling copiously onto your lap, before you even get to the end of the first paragraph.

Hope this helps.
