Sky+ Question

Diverting this thread (sorry)... how do you connect a SKY + box to a PC to records stuff? Is there a firewire port?

It seems you can do it via the copy function with Sky+ and connect your laptop as if copying to a DVD recorder for example.

And incase any mods are watching....no its not illegal as its the standard copy feature available on the Sky+ box.

It copies in real time tho, ie 2 hour film is 2 hours copying just like the normal process. You cant make it go quicker.

If you google it, you should find plenty of advice on there along these lines.

However, you might be better using a DVD recorder to do it then playing those on your PC. I should be getting a DVD recorder next week and will give it a go.

Indeed, this works brilliantly. I'd suggest one with a harddrive as well - I copy the program from Sky+ onto the harddrive, this then lets me edit out adverts, set a thumbnail, add bookmarks, etc... and then copy that onto DVD. Runs on the PC through your usual DVD playing software.

Be advised, in case you're not aware, that you can't copy Sky Box Office movies off of the Sky+ box (unless you do things that can't be mentioned on this type of board).

Yep, ordered one with a hard drive so hopefully I can copy things off my Sky+ before the hard drive fails....unlike last time when I lost my QPR game and ManU game. I was even in the sky coverage....well a face in the crowd....my only claim to fame....

And yes, I agree with the last bit. Unmentionable incase of Officer Cricko and co arriving. A quick Google though will reveal the ways to do it.....

I've been having problems with my Sky+ recordings and the sound skipping. So I looked on digitalspy and saw that this was a common problem caused by a dodgy software update by Sky so I penned a letter to James Murdoch and received this reply:

Thank you for your email addressed to James Murdoch, which has been passed to me to investigate and respond on his behalf.

I would like to begin by apologising for the problems you have had with your Sky+ box.

On checking our records, I can advise that there are no notes on your account suggesting that you have contacted us with regards to the problems you are having with your Amstrad Sky+ box. However. as it appears that you require an engineer to replace your equipment, I can advise that I have arranged a service call, free of charge, for Thursday, 1 November 2007. The reference for this job is xxxxxxx and the engineer will call you before 9.30am on the morning of the job to give you an estimated time of arrival. Should you need to change the date, please email me at the above address. Unfortunately, as equipment is subject to availability, I am unable to guarantee which make of box that you will receive, however I can advise that it will be a new PVR3.

I trust that this is satisfactory and thank you for your patience and understanding regarding this matter.

Kind regards
Customer Liaison Consultant
