I rather support an new Southend United FC (1906) side in Essex Senior league for 2023/24 season than limping on to an slow death.

Southend United has been a part of my life for roughly 65 years, albeit I am more a follower than a supporter these days due to location and personal commitments. To me, it would be a tragedy for it to die and therefore in this poll I have opted for it to continue limping along.

However, in supporting/following one’s football club there has to be an element of optimism that perhaps a particular season will be the one that sees promotion, or at least challenging for it. If the club is limping along, poorly run, underfunded with little or no alternative revenue streams, resulting in little chance of competing for honours, I can fully understand why some will say enough is enough.

Although there have been some joyous times under RMs ownership, he has ended up taking us to the lowest points in our history where we are again now facing the possibility of extinction. Therefore, any future with him still involved, even as a shadow in the background perhaps influencing his son, is unthinkable. If those were the circumstances (RMs continued involvement) and I was a much younger man I would probably be considering more carefully whether I could tolerate ongoing turmoil.
