Hello all,

Long time poster on BBC 606 forum,

Long time reader of this one and finally have had the enthusiasm to register.

There's been a lot of discussion about Tilly's signings and yes, like every manager, he has had a few duds, but here is a list of nearly all (as many as I can remember) of his signings. (SORRY TO MY FELLOW 606ERS WHO HAVE ALREADY READ THIS!!!!)

I have full faith in Tilly because we wouldn't even be close to where we are now without him.

This doesn't include loan signings.

Feel free to tell me of any I've missed and I'll add them.

Tilly's GREAT buys: :D
ADAM BARRETT (Yes, he was the one who signed him - ON A FREE)
SPENCER PRIOR (free)
SHAUN GOATER (free)
FREDDY EASTWOOD (nominal)
ALAN McCORMACK (£30k)
NICKY BAILEY (£175k)
EFE SODJE (free)

Tilly's GOOD buys: :o
CARL PETTEFER (free)
MARK BENTLEY (free)
LUKE GUTTRIDGE (free)

LAWRIE DUDFIELD (free)

SIMON FRANCIS (£100kish??)
TOMMY BLACK (free)
CHARLIE MACDONALD (free)
PETER CLARKE (?)

Tilly's DECENT buys:
STEVE COLLIS (free)
NICKY NICOLAU (free)

Tilly's BAD buys :fury:
BILLY PAYNTER (£200k)
MATT HARROLD (£50k)
MICHAEL RICKETTS (free)
GARRY RICHARDS (£50k)
RICHIE FORAN (£200k??)

THE UNDECIDED
GARY HOOPER (free)

THE TOO EARLY TO DECIDE
LEE BARNARD (£25k)
ALEX REVELL (£150k)

Or Mulgrew ;)

Ah, I'd put Clarke in the good signings and Collis in a section all of his own - the decent signings!!!! :D

Mulgrew is a loan player and we've had too many of those for me to remember!!

Keep them coming and we can have a definitive list.

Macca is a great buy IMO,

We were dead and buried last year before we signed him and although we eneded up dead and buried he gave us a chance,

Plus he's been great this season and was a snip at £30k.

Richie Foran....Id put in the bad buy category sadly.

Efe Sodge, for the way he helped us up and the minimal price, Id have to say he deserves to be in the excellent category.

My fault for not reading the original post properly, my apologies! :p

I wouldn't say Richards was a bad signing. He did a solid, if unspectacular job, when called upon, but was never given a fair crack of the whip IMO.

Plus we sold him for a profit so he couldn't have been that bad a signing! ;)

With two important goals, I'd be tempted to suggest Barnard has repaid the value already!

Welcome on board - good to see a first post with a bit of content. I'd be inclined to have Dudfield in the top bracket as he really did a lot to help our survival in Tilly's first season

Was Nicky Nicolau permanent? Probably decent at best with this as he had a useful contribution at the end of the 04/05 season

I think we signed him permanently at the end of the 03-04 season.
I'd concur with you on Dudfield as well - although he faded a bit once his loan spell had ended.

Great start Bish.

I've been thinking we needed a thread like this for a while to look at the realities of Tilson signings rather than the perceptions. I've always felt that Tilson's good buys have outweighed his bad, and what you've produced only convinces me further.

While clearly ST has made some poor signings, I still take heart from the fact that he hasn't cut his nose of to spite his face by playing them beyond their sell-by date. He spent a lot of money on Paynter for instance, and Foran, but he's shipped them off again without delay. We will either have recouped some of the outlay, or at least cut the dead wood.

Welcome to the board BTW.

With Richards, it was clear he thought he could walk into our team (another debate as to whether he should of or not) and left at the first opportunity,

This is enough, I believe, to put him in the bad - but I do accept your point that he was a solid player.

I don't really blame Richards for wanting to leave - after all the partnership of Clarke and Barrett was looking calamitous for most of the season - and a partnership of Richards + Barrett or Clarke looked much more solid, but at the earliest opportunity he was back out of the side. He wasn't ever really going to get a decent chance I don't think.

He certainly did - brillaint dive to win us crucial pen in play off semis!!!

Nicolau, Foran and Sodje added.

Nicolau was decent as you said sufcintheprem,

Foran has clearly been one of Tilly's poorer captures (although would we be saying that if we'd stayed up and that last minute winner v Burnley had been crucial!! :D )

Sodje, I must agree number11, was an excellent capture, brought in the experience needed to win us the league and was also one of the stars of the ManU win.

Can't help but think we need another experienced, sodje type of player to stop the set piece goals going in.

Thanks for the kind welcome comments, look forward to chatting with you guys over the coming days, weeks, months and maybe even years.

Bish mate, welcome to the other side at last! Thought this was a 5* on 606 and fully deserved to be repeated on here with some green rep.

I still would :p

For the newbies I was scathing of our interest in Foran before we signed him & suspected it would all go pear-shaped (although certainly didn't forsee the actual reason as to why he'd eventually be forced out of RH!!!)
