Echo News Shrimpers legend Benjamin suggests where current crop can improve

We can but dream. I'm sure there is something to be said for simplicity in footballing strategy. let players express and enjoy themselves. Have structure and simple tasks. Perhaps Maher is over cooking things

Youth players are trained in different formations now, 4-4-2 is for the dinosaurs. The team I play in plays a flat back four but a very fluid front five with a deep anchor.

Nonsense. That's a 4-4-2, with one midfielder dropping deep to defend against the counter-attack and the other midfielder pushing forward to support, with a pacy forward leading the line and the other forward dropping back to link up play.

These days the 'wingers' play further forward and cut inside rather than hug the line and the full-backs push forward to supply the width.

Benji couldn't run for toffee, but was an excellent link-up forward. That's still a 4-4-2.
