Echo News Shrimpers boss Maher on form of goalkeeper Andeng Ndi

Hilson is a bit short but Collin gets little in the air anyway so no change there . Can’t be a mug having been at Arsenal and has good feet so stick him in

Yep and if we weren’t embargoed Eliot Justham would have been here a while ago.

Just about to say that.

The embargo hit us massively, however it did benefit us in the emergence of Collin and to a lesser extent, Coker too.

Both wouldn’t have got the game time at a “normal” club without embargo’s and all the behind the scenes nonsense.

That top, top coaching at Arsenal didn’t prepare Taylor Foran for his debut.

Cool. Lets just leave the kid in goal then destroying his confidence.

Week on week a player with, what appears to be good potential is actually deteriorating.

We are clearly unable to bring anyone else in for whatever reason, so we should adopt an old school " Man up and get through it" mentalility, rather than give the bloke a break? Understood.

I’d suggest it’s destroying your confidence rather than his.

He was still attempting to pass it out, he still came for crosses.

Your options also aren’t just drop him or tell him to man up. You could try and build up his confidence by telling him that you still believe in him, that you’re going to back him as you know what a great keeper he is. That he’s earnt the shirt with his performances last season and that he’s one save away from being everyone’s hero again.

Are you suggesting that his manager talking about his form in the press wouldn't affect his confidence? Would Kev simply not acknowledging it in the press be better?

I'm not limiting it to 2 options, and i understand that traditionally, positive reinforcement should and would be used and i'd suggest that is what they have been doing. It's just that isn't working is it?

Using the " you earnt the shirt with your performances last season" is bizarre. Hes undroppable because he played well 4 months ago?

I'm not criticising the person, but in my humble opinion ( as a supporter of the team, nothing else) is that he's out of form and we are just getting him to play through it. Goalkeeper is the last position we should be doing that.

Players in all positions are going to have fluctuations in form. The thing with goalkeepers is there’s no way for them to regain their form or their position. We don’t have a reserve side, you’re not going to bring them on with 15 minutes remaining.

I think you need to ride through a keeper’s rough patches. Ideally by those in front of him picking up their game and helping him out a bit more.

I think he showed enough in the last two seasons to be our first choice keeper. If he was a good enough keeper 4 months ago he should be a good enough keeper now.

It’s also not ideal to chuck a keeper in for their first team debut when they’ve had no match practice for several months. Maybe that’s a factor why the standard of keeping in this division is generally poor?

I'm a massive fan of Collins, I think sometimes we forget just how young he is. On the whole he has been a fantastic keeper and I've no doubt in my mind he will be a football league keeper before he's 25. His shot stopping, claiming of crosses and general technique is superb. Sure his distribution isn't there just yet and he's going through a low confidence spell, but he is, in my opinion,.a class act.

As a yardstick DB made his debut in 2011 when he was 18, CAN was 19 so there are similarities there.

If only he could do something about it, like take him out of the firing line.

Theres no way that Hilson with, at least 5 years top, top coaching at Arsenal can't hold the fort while they work out what to do.
Agreed and there's no point Hilson being on the bench if Kev doesn't trust him or thinks he's not capable. Colin looked really good at times last season and part of the problem was we were expecting a real go at getting out the division this season but have stalled and everybody seems a little off the pace compared to last season
