Should the FA look into Thornton??

Status
Not open for further replies.
When I was on hols in Scotland a few weeks ago the SFA I think or it might have been the SPFA wanted to use video evidence to get the divers and stamp it out of the game. FIFA told them they couldn't do this. Can our Scottish contingent confirm this and if so whether there has been any change in this position. I wasn't there on Saturday (more hols I'm afraid) but the consensus seems to be the ref was suckered by a cheat.

Just before the sending off Thornton was involved in a piece of shirt pulling down in the south west corner, forget who our player was but he nearly pulled his shirt off his back, the linesman flageed for a free kick, but our player would have been through on goal, how Thorton didn't get booked for that was beyond me.

Most of the 'flare' ups were around Thornton on Saturday, but at some time he will get found out.

If the FA are to look into removing diving - sorry "simulation" - from the game, then YES, it IS the likes of Thornton who should be receiving attention (alongside Nathan Jones, Nicky Nicolau and others). Thornton seems to be an excellent player, so what a shame his game needs to involve cheating.

Take Ronaldo as an example, and you see how even one of the world's most talented players can ruin a match by going to ground too easily to win tactical free-kicks. Again, it's cheating and every time it happens, it leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

There are many things wrong with football these days. However, I believe diving to be a cancer in the game. If the disease remains unchecked, it will eventually destroy the game. Retroactive punishment for diving offences will tackle the problem effectively.

I thank you too.

It was probably you who called me, my 3 year old son and 9 year old daughter Orient scummers at the Essex Cricket Festival yesterday.QUOTE]

... and on this subject, i saw a few Ooze shirts at the cricket on Sunday, which were worn, IMO, purely to draw a reaction, i doubt they'd have been on show if we'd won 4-0 on Saturday !!!
... and there's normally a few W*** H** shirts over there, but with them taking their rightful position at the foot of the Premiersh!t they were unsurprisingly lacking this year ;)

So now you're saying, IF McCormack made contact. So its fair to say he did.

You've clearly never played the game mate - what Thornton has done is called riding a challenge/tackle. And I'm not sure whether you actually realise it or not, but a dangerous tackle from behind is a mandatory caution.

I think its clearly you who has never played the game. If u ride a tackle u dont get injured by it so you wouldnt be on the lying on the floor pretending to be in agony! Its a mans sport and Thornton didnt act like a man! Either its play acting or his just a pathetic wimp, which one?? Or maybe a bit of both!

If it had happened in the premier league I feel sure sometihng would have been done. Sadly it didnt so I cant see anyone at the FA caring about us.

He should really get done for this done I cant see anything happening. Its a shame he has to be such a **** as I dont think anyone woul deny he is a classy player.

Sadly I think the practice of 'simulation' - whether it's going down as if you've been shot when tackled or diving itself - has become far too prevalent in the lower leagues now for something effective to be done about it.

There are too many players who'll go down like a pack of cards with the slightest touch these days.

You have to fill out a form, but it's worth it.

Let's get on the FA's back!

or even...here

contact@fifa.org - oh thats fifa, well, maybe.

Here's my attempt at reasoning with the FA:

Cheating the referee:

Dear FA,

I'm sorry to say that my long awaited return to my beloved Roots Hall wasn't an enjoyable one. I'm used to this, however, being relegated last year with numerous defeats, but this was different. From what I saw, behind the goal, upper stand, 2nd row, less then 30 yards from the incident, Sean Thornton of Leyton Orient cheated the referee to gain an advantage, in the form of a freekick. However, this didn't only happen once, but three times to my memory. Their player has undoubted ability, and managed to pick himself up from the 'foul' to put the ball into the top corner, but this isn't the point. I'd also like to take the time out to say I have nothing against Orient, well I didn't, after seeing their tactics my views have been changed slightly.

I've heard the FA have been saying they want to clamp down on diving, and I believe this is true. I really hope though, that someone will view the evidence that is there, as it's caught on camera, from 2 angles. Judge for yourselves whether it was a freekick or not, but more importantly, did he go down too easily? I also really hope that the FA, should they see a wrong decision made by one of your referee's, put your hands up and admit that a wrong decision was made, for the greater good. Everyone makes mistakes, I don't blame the referee for giving the freekicks, I firmly blame the one who commited the crime, should they be proven guilty. I look forward to your reply,

Yours Sincerely,
Fred -------

Surely you mean at the foot of the Championship, given their little exploits last year?
