Interesting that some of you guys are arranging matches around seeing their kids, that are at uni. My lad is currently looking at uni's to attend and he keeps mentioning things like..."don't worry, Fleetwood & Blackpool away isn't far from Lancaster, dad"..."don't worry, Sheff Utd & Doncaster away aren't far from York, dad"...etc. That's my boy !

Not saying it will happen to you SK, but my youngest did the 'don't wory dad' bit on a regular basis. Not for football matches, because she is rubbish at it and thinks Deegan has fit thighs, but visiting was always a good opportunity to top up the university 'having a good time' fund.

Quick Google search - cannot see any news re England U20 and U19 fixtures.

The Sheff Utd fixture is important to us fans, many are planning things around it. Add me to that list, planning to meet No. 1 son at Sheffield railway station (him travelling from Newcastle), watch the game, travel up to Huddersfield where we will meet No. 2 son, have a meal and a few beers, stay in Huddersfield that eve, have a trip out together on the Sunday and then all make our way back to our respective homes.

A club that cares for its fans should do some digging to find out the actual position and communicate it. Here's hoping ........
Completely. We were all pleased about going up so we could go to places like Coventry and Sheffield to watch our team play in decent grounds and for the second time all plans are put on hold with no input to the fans from either club. Definately need to make up for the Coventry farce.
Any shared news greatly appreciated.

But it it's completely out of our clubs hands....and Cov have no right/need to tell us. They will wait until the squads have been announced and then decide....which is fair enough.

I would have been blissfully unaware there was a chance that the Sheffield game may be moved without this thread. Both clubs are aware. People have booked hotels and trains based on this match being played at the advertised time and you think it is fair enough that the clubs keep quite on the possibility of a change?

Coventy had a match to play at a time when they had hired the venue out for another purpose and they knew that when the fixtures were announced. I'm surprised you find them waiting until 3 weeks before kick off to say anything is acceptible.

I almost booked trains for Sheffield so that I could go and visit a pal in Huddersfield after the game. But my plans changed so I'm going to see him next weekend instead. I feel a bit relieved now.

I was thinking of doing the same with some other away games in the area later in the season. I'll have to keep an eye on the international schedule before I decide what to go for.

Hmmmm. Thanks for the heads up. No wonder he's keen for me to go up north and see games with him - might be angling for more non-returnable withdrawals from bank of dad

Totally off topic, we bought her a TV licence when she was in Halls in the first year. Turns out we were the only parents that year that did, and when a TV detector van turned up at her Uni she had 16 TVs stashed in her room from her mates!

There is no comparison between the Coventry situation, which was unquestionably badly handled, and the Sheff Utd one.

International weeks are well publicised and Sheff Utd will have no idea how many players may be called up until the squads are announced.

My football knowledge isn't that great, I watch Southend United and that's it really. It would never have occurred to me that any of our games would potentially be moved due to a shortage of players on international week. Where there is a potential for games to be moved I think the clubs should flag that up.

Good on you, surprised so many didn't bother. When I started at Uni (a decade ago :stunned:) there was a big deal made over the fact that everyone in halls needed the own TV licence. Never saw a detector van turn up to check however.

Well. two full working days have passed since email to club sent asking for any news/clarity, and guess what?

SFA:tumbleweed:

Maybe they are all out at a party with HMRC

Give them a break. There is nothing for them to investigate or clarify and certainly no news to impart.

The international squads are selected at reasonably short notice (and could be amended for injury replacement at even shorter notice). At that point and only then, any club which has the requisite number of call ups can request a postponement regardless of whether or not the called up players would have taken part in the game.

I bet Sheff Utd are wishing they'd not called off that game now !!

I see Sheffield United away tickets are available online not a bad price £20 Adults, Concession £13, Young person/student £11, Junior £9. Think most people will wait until its confirmed the game will actually go ahead on the 14th Nov. Is it 10 days notice required for the International cancellation?

Think it is a week's notice they have to give. Good prices, decent stand too I believe. Really hope this one goes ahead.

Bramall Lane is brilliant, in the away end or the home stands. Really hope this goes ahead on the Sat.

Looks like the game is going to be on the 14th: (touch wood)

Southend United @SUFCRootsHall
Sheffield United: Following initial discussions with Sheffield United, the game is likely to still be played on Saturday 14th November.
