Granted he didn’t have his best game tonight. But he’s been our best player for the past 2 months. There’s a lot of unfair criticism given out on here but this tops it all by some distance. Bizarre.

I'm sorry but I think Petejames has a valid point. He is slow, ponderous and sometimes he seems incapable of doing the basics, and I mean basics.
I too thought he had a goodish spell in our recent good run, but I think he is one of those players who maybe thrives on a back four and keeper playing with confidence, something as rare as rocking horse sh.t. this season.
Definitely NOT one you would have in the trenches with you.

Really? He said Hobson is the worst defender he has seen in the history of pro football. Unless tonight was the first game of football he has watched he doesn’t have a valid point. There are far worse defenders in this seasons squad alone. Hobson won POTM for December, he’s had more than just a ‘goodish’ spell. Tonight was his first bad game for months.

I don’t think he’s that slow for a CB. He actually looks quite fast going forward with the ball at his feet, something he does really well. He certainly isn’t any slower than John White.
 
Hobson was player of the month, last month. He’s only young and is getting better with game time and by benefitting from playing with more senior pro’s alongside him (White etc). An absolute scapegoat.
 
We were doing very well with him and White in the centre of a back 4. At last we had consistently- so tinkerman went and changed it because we have to play the new signing as well. Hobson is nowhere as effective it seems in a back three- he is a good no nonsense CB in a back 4. If the new signing had to play then I am afraid the tough choice is to drop Hobson or White. Went for an easier option instead.

The new signing came in for Halford, who at 36 and with a year and a half out of the game, can't play Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday.

Maybe but if he plays and Hobson and White play you have 3 at the back? Unless you drop one? Just because we sign a cB does not mean we have to play 3? Particularly when we have just formed a reliable CB pairing that's performing. I have no particular problem with signing another CB (as long as its not at the expense of what we need more urgently).

The 4 at the back was abandoned after the Orient defeat when it didn't work. We then beat Barrow with 3 central defenders.

Who would you have dropped the central defender for?
Olayinka? - he's injured

Dieng? - he's suspended
Goodship? - he's injured
Klass? - he's injured
Egbri? - he's injured
Gard? - he's injured
