Lee, you've hit the nail on the head there - if there's one thing that does unite them all it's their hatred of the English! Maybe that's it, we should have England, and the rest!

I watched a film called Trainspotting which is set in Scotland and was shocked just how easy these heroin addicts had it with their fashionable clothes and perfect teeth and hair.

Do they really need the trillions we are sending over the border if even those who have dropped out of society can afford to live in comparative luxury?

The majority do.....but not all of them mate.

I posted the figures some months ago regards the effect it would have in the Scottish economy and budget. I could trawl back and find it but it was basically....the first few years Scotland would be ok due to The North Sea Oil and Gas revenues, these would balance out the lack of subsides. But by fiscal year 3 things would start to spiral and year on year would get worse.

The Scottish people know this and even though they are a proud bunch and not the greatest lovers of the English, they are not daft.

There is no want that Salmond will ever persuade the Scottish people to vote for a separate Scotland.

Yeahhhhhhhh

Amazing how they all have built in underwater swimming pools in their toilets as well.....truly shocking!!!

Could we cope as well as we have been without the other members of the UK ?

Certainly , historically we have relied on Welsh Coal and Scottish Oil. And I believe that The North of England gets a lot of its water from Reservoirs in Wales and Scotland.
Presumably the fishing rights off the coasts would also be affected ?

you may be right about the oil though I suspect they have more than had their money back via govt subsidies
not sure about the coal though - there were plent of coalfields in durham, yorks, lancs, notts and even kent.
not sure about the water either -there's a pretty big reservoir called kielder up here that supplies most of northern england.

I don't particularly want to be associated with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in any way, just like they don't with England. The Scots and Welsh wanted devolution, let em have it in every sense. Let em be self sufficient without poncing off of Westminster. As for Northern Ireland, hand it over to Republic of Ireland or if they don't want it just nuke it!

Sensible policies for a better Britain.

Obviously the answer is for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to exist as separate nations within a Federal Europe.

I think Liverpool and Cheshire get a lot of theirs from Wales.

I also recall a campaign in the Highlands a few years ago where there were plans to put massive wind farms on the NE scottish coast (and the islands too I think) and then run pylons right across the highland, apparently all to power Manchester

Simple then ... keep Manchester dark and let the scousers die of de-hydration

They talk funny to the north of us too, so if we just break off that bit north of the Blackwater at The Wash and push it towards Scandinavia

Cornwall and Devon are odd too so that bit can go

In fact nuke Canvey also!

Some of the Scott’s will use any opportunity to have a pop at the English....There was a piece on SSN about a Scottish guy introducing football to Argentina and the guy being interviewed said...." So Scotland are responsible for the hand of god and for England getting knocked out of the 86 world cup" then started laughing

T**t

Total energy self-sufficiency is a good aim for any country but its not essential if the supplying country is friendly.
I don't see English independence meaning that we sever all ties and trade with Scotland and Wales. In fact, in the long run I would see it improving relations between us - as it seems to have done, albeit very slowly, with Ireland.
If the Scots and Welsh decide to take their ball home and sulk then the savings of subsidies to them will easily fund an alternative means for the energy/water needs of a relatively small part of the country like Liverpool and Cheshire - and your own answer seems to indicate the Manchester scheme doesn't actually exist.
