Madden had been injured, just came back. Great striker. Mind you the striker that has been filling in for him, Van Veen, has been quality in his absence. Got our work cut out!

Top stuff 'BB'.

So much for the Internet, the old Rothmans Year Books always come up trumps.

I believe Ian Botham was reported by the media to be playing for Scunny at Roots Hall on an evening game - possibly the Friday night mentioned.
The reports were incorrect or something happened - he did not play.

Players who've played for both clubs:

Luke Daniels
Luke O'Neill
Kevan Hurst
Keith Lindsey
Lee Hodges
Nigel Pepper
Gary Hooper
Steve Mildenhall
Bobby Bennett
George Friend
Michael Timlin
Jamie Forrester
Jacob Murphy
Theo Robinson
Mike Angus

Andy Smillie

In addition to Mick's Andy Smillie...

Martin Carruthers.
Couple of players to add Bill Punton also Geoff Barnard a local lad who went to school in Southend and played a few matches for the reserves as an amateur around 1962-63,but was never offered a contract. Snapped up by Norwich City in September 1963 he made only 6 appearances in the 1st.Team before switching to Scunny
where he played over 250 games in nearly 10 years.

Now Innis is out, I'd say we'll start with the same side as last Saturday, except Sokolik for Ferdinand.

The tough call being White/Demetriou, but I can see PB sticking with JW for this tough away game and maybe bringing Demetriou back for Millwall.

That ties in with my vague memory that there was talk that Beefy would be at the footie but he never was.

The old Rubins knew how to spin a story to put a few hundred on the gate! :winking:

Assuming they are both fit,Coker and McLaughlin to replace the 2 K's and Demetriou and Thompson are obviously better than White and Barrett.

Absolutely no way should Coker replace Kyprianou.

Not only has Kyp been brilliant, it would also send a poor message to the rest of the team if he allowed an out of form Coker to walk straight back into the team. Kyp has earned his place and Coker will have to win it back.

...............Smith.............

..Thommo, Sokolik, Barratt (or in any other positions in the 3)

Anyone who hopes one of our players gets injured is a saddo.

His not our player, only on loan. Id prefer he went back and we played our own players who are much better. Very grown up of you 'saddo', how immature.

No way should Coker walk back in the team, he's been well below par for a while now, it might be a fitness thing or it might be the Reading interest, who knows but he's not been himself for months

Only bring Macca back in if he is definitely 100% fit as he's prone to injury. I think he's been our best player this season, certainly from an attacking point of view so the last thing we need is him to play only 70% fit and get another crunch and he's out for months rather than weeks

The following information was taken from various Rothman's Year Books
regarding Ian Botham's football league career:- 25/03/80. Bournemouth away 3-3(used substitute).
29/03/80. Walsall home lost 1-3(used substitute).
12/03/82. Wigan Athletic home lost 2-7(played No.9).
16/03/82. Bournemouth away lost 2-0(played No.9).
20/03/82. Peterborough United away lost 2-1(played No.9).
23/03/82. Aldershot home 1-1(played No.9).
17/12/83. Gillingham home won 2-0(played No.9).
26/12/83. Hull City away lost 1-0(played No.9).
27/12/83. Preston N.E. home lost 1-5(played No.9).
01/01/85. Tranmere Rovers away lost 2-0(used substitute).
12/02/85. Peterborough United home won 2-0(used substitute).
The only Southend Utd./Ian Botham link I can find was in December 1983 when Scunthorpe beat Bury 2-0 in the F.A.Cup 2nd.Round.
Ian Botham played at No.9 for Scunthorpe and the Bury No.9 was our former player Derek Spence. Botham did not score in any of his first team appearances.

....... and for that handful of matches he got a Benefit Match against Man Utd !

Looks like what I would select, other than I'd switch Atkinson and Leonard.

For me Leonard is being played too deep, I'd like to see him pushing on and getting in to the box more with Atkinson instructed to provide the foil for the defence.

He's wearing our shirt so that makes him our player in my eyes. To wish injury on someone is pathetic, give your head a wobble
