Just thought i'd pass on a report that we are apparently looking to sign Scott Wagstaff, previously of Charlton Athletic and released in the summer. Not sure the best place to post this as obviously it's a rumour and we're (even more obviously) embargoed, but i've been told this by someone associated to CAFC.

I'd be pleased if we were to sign him from what i've seen and heard about him, decent enough pedigree too. Other interest as well, so may well be one of those that 'gets away' owing to our latest crisis.

Was on loan at Orient last season so would be surprised if we got him. Will go to a league 1 club I reckon.

There was a rumour going around that he was coming to Colchester as he was keen to link up with Mark Kinsella again, but to be honest we have far too many midfielders already so unless we are shifting a few out the door that would appear to be unlikely. He would be a very good signing for you guys imho.

Absolutely no point in posting these rumours, we are under an embargo, so have no chance of signing anyone. Would also suggest that he is looking for better than mid table league two!

Think he would be a cracking signing for us a real coup and for that reason we won't sign him. On top of everything else but a good name to be rumoured with.

Nah... Keep posting... I love the endless rumors and eventually signing someone who was never mentioned before... Harmless bantor to fill the gaps before the season!

The point in my post was to try and highlight how the off field problems mean we are likely to miss out on our targets as a result. In my opinion, he would be a very good signing for any L2 side and this tip off came from somebody with no connection to SUFC and who knows Scott. This chap said he has other offers, all from L2 at the moment (Bristol Rovers amongst others) and I think its a good example of how our promotion rivals are able to strengthen and sign players we would otherwise have wanted but our predicament prevents us from doing so. It makes PB's job even harder and IMHO is likely to leave us languishing around the bottom end of the table and i'm sure if that is the case come February, we'll all be perplexed at why.

Ha ha dannypav I would not patronise your club or anyone else for that matter, our club and yours are very similer in many ways, or to put it another way we are both nobodies except to a few thousand die hard souls, it puts it all in perspective when you see what financial muscle we are both up against look at this concerning Wolves in our division.

My thoughts too southend4eva, it is just a bit of fun before the real depression kicks in, by the way I hope you don't drive to the games given your location :omg:

Very true mate , but keep it quiet...................

According to the ever reliable Wikipedia he got 10 goals from 42 starts last season. He'd be mad to come here, if we pulled that off it would be a massive coup.

Thanks for that insight TB now tell me why your club is going bust!

And you tell me where you would be with out old Robbie boy???

Fact is we have potential to sustain YOU without him have no hope!

Also you need to face up he is sick of investing in a club where the town don't give a toss!

Oh yeah I forgot http://www.gazette-news.co.uk/news/10355908.Colchester_United_Community_Sports_Trust_closes/

Dont worry about the trust mate, although that carried their name the current set up had nothing to do with our club, in fact Colchester United were so concerned by it's demise they made sure all the kids who had booked for courses with the trust would receive full services for which they had paid for example courses during the Summer. Cowling has made a big difference but if he left I don't think it would be that difficult to sustain now, he does not put the money in he used to and the club has come a long way in terms of self finance since the new stadium was set up and there are a lot more plans in advanced stages to make it better still. Yes our crowds are very poor and will not improve much unless we go up but as long as the club lives within it's means they will not have the issues Southend United seem to have. As I said without us die hards both of our clubs would be nothing sure you have the potential support wise to be much bigger than us, but that potential has to be managed for the good of the club and not a few individual's.
