Apart from that game against WBA on New Year's Day 2007, when IIRC, he scored two cracking goals in a 3-1 win. Took my daughter for the first time and hope sprung eternal! Less agreeable was that FA Cup game against Barnsley which, by chance, I also attended............to see that 'fluke' goal he scored

That WBA game and also against Man U he was excellent, other than that he was mainly crap, at one point that season he was so bad that Lewis Hunt was being preferred! He was the ultimate style over substance player, some flashy touches and step overs mean nothing if there's zero end product. IMO he was massively over rated by some, I personally couldn't stand him. Having said that what's the betting he beats 3 players and scores a wonder goal when Sheffield U visit Roots Hall .

Admittedly he often belied his outstanding ability with a poor end product, but he was one of only a handful of players who didn't look out of his depth for us in that Championship season. He went on to show his true level when making a further 127 Championship appearances with Barnsley then Bristol City.

Agreed that he has got ability, that's what annoyed me most, he did the hard part in beating his man then either fell on his arse trying to beat the man again or put in yet another crap cross. Admittedly looking at his record he improved after leaving us, however I've looked the 2006-2007 stats up and JCR had 2 goals and 3 assists. Compare that to Gower who had 11 goals and 7 assists. Make of that what you will, but I still think he let us down overall especially when you look at his record after leaving.

I remember one match when we were under great pressure and all the defenders did was wallop the ball out towards JCR and he would be able to keep the ball, beat a couple of players and allow players to get back up the pitch. A very valuable outlet.

Is it hello again to Theo Robinson too? Last time I saw his name pop up he was playing for Donny.

Just to say, that in my opinion, the originator of this thread is clearly the worst Soft Cell tribute act ever.

I'm the one at the back on the keyboard ...

... though sometimes I feel I've got to run away, I've got to get away - from the pain you drive into the heart of me. The love we share seems to go nowhere and I've lost my light for I toss and turn I can't sleep at night.

We won't be saying anything this year to Billy Paynter - he has signed for the Monkey Hangers.

Mind you, there is always the possibility of a cup game. :nope:
