Saving Money

Or maybe wait for your inheritance and hope it's enough, I quit work in July as I was in the same job for nearly 10 years, my bosses where idiots and I worked with some right lazy sods, best thing I ever did giving my notice in, just work when you fancy it, I recommend it:thumbsup:

Though not one that's nearly £500 because some Islington yummy mummy has one. You can get a decent one for under a ton.

Ooh, but when you get an iCandy Twin Peach Blossom that can turn on a sixpence and get through a normal door, paying a few extra quid is worth it. I loved that beast

The pram was the one thing I wouldn't scrimp on. Anyway, I believe they have to be called 'travel systems' these days

Thanks again for the advice and like people have said, you can easily spend over a grand on a pram but I will not be doing that thats for sure.

But going back to TB's thread, saving money whilst making hard life changes can be done. For me, not drinking anywhere near as much and also quiting smoking has saved me a lot. Downside is sadly away games have to go on the back burner but its for the greater good in the end.

Yeah we absolutely love our Bugaboo Cameleon - we use it at least once a day and so spending quite a lot of money on something you're going to get several years use from (especially from more than 1 kid) is worth it IMO. Especially for the hilly streets of urban Sheffield! My missus doesn't really use the car much so if that's your situation then having a good pram is really important IMO.

Do you remember those halcyon days on SZ when you talking about love for a Bugaboo Cameleon would have been met with snorts of amusement??

The irony, it's too much.

I'd suggest - know the difference between 'need' and 'want'.

Need - food, water etc.

Want -I-phone, plasma TV etc.

Getting priorities right may be boring but it saves problems.

the above is so accurate its untrue. Today we are bombarded with adverts stateing 'you are worth i' 'must have' 'bargain' 'its normal to borrow ', 'cheap finance' and off course bloody expensive fiancne . Too many peopl buy into all of this marketing rubbish . They want to have more money, but not change their livestyle at all and wonder why its not achieveable. I don't understand how some people want to save money, but have not tried (and I mean properly tried) to give up smoking. I won't get on my soap box that it kills you having a massive impact on your family , firends and your children, but for the purposes of this thread surely for anyone that smokes surely this has to be a major unnecessary expensee ?

Another thing , re the epoeple who recommend long term investments . Great idea, but even better if you remember to up your monthy savings each time you get a pay rise. That way you never miss what you neve had and it is far easier adding slowly that in massive hits . I am 47 and am forunate enough to be in a well paid job , but 3 years ago I realished how crap my pension was going to me (and I have a 'good pension') . I am now putting in (relatively speaking) huge amounts into my pension. I don't think ost peopl realise that each £100,000 gets you less thatn £5000 a year in a standard pension

We all have to make sacrifices for nippers unfortunately! like others have said congratulations to you both and if you need anything or are looking fro anything just send a message my way I'm sure I'll have what your after, my Mrs is a nightmare for throwing things away or taking to the charity shop but if someone asks if we have something she's happy to hand it over, crazy I know! so when I say you'll be doing me a favour I am not joking!
