Roy O'Donovan

So how much do you feel would be a 'reasonable' offer for O'Donovan, Pablo?

It's not all about goals, caps etc. He didn't make a slur on Cork City. But it's a fact that the Championship is a step up from the Eircom League and Southend is probably a step up from Cork. Even if we do get relegated this season, the club is, in the long term, going places, and the management team and the chairman will always sell that fact well to any prospective new signings. You can't hold out for too much money surely? He's only proved himself in the Eircom League and he's pretty much untested over here, so he can't be worth as much as your club probably think he's worth. I'm sure he'd like to test himself in England, and it appears that we are the only club ut of a few who are interested to have made a firm offer for him rather than inviting him for a trial, which is what he was hoping for. If he does want to test himself here and your chairman keeps rejecting bids, he's gonna become unsettled, and surely you don't want an unhappy or unsettled player who doesn't really want to be there anymore upsetting team morale?

Yeah no doubt that stung and is still stinging. Doyle had a release clause in his contract though. Roy has none.

What would you expects to pay for an Under 21 and B international?
In all honesty, He's no real experience playing at Championship level and its pretty safe to say the standard is considerably higher over here.

For a highly rated player who represents at a 'B' international level i'd be disapointed if we went above £500k considering hes untested.
By the looks of it Southend are not exactly "championship" standard either......

Roy has many caps at various international levels, 10 European hames under his belt in the last 2 seasons etc etc

And Kevin Doyle didnt find the "jump" too difficult did he?
All due respects, but European games are all relative. He only got those games because he plays in the Irish league. There are players in Malta (where I live) that get European games every year, play regularly for their national squad... but I reckon most would struggle in the Conference or League 2.

Realistically i'd say we'd let him go for around 400k. Ideally he's a 500k+ player.

If he does well with you, which i reckon he would, he'll go to a bigger Club so we should have a sell on clause like we do with Doyler.

With around 10 clubs supposedly interested in him i hope it sparks a bit of an auction! We've lost a lot of players in the transfer window so we need to rebuild.

indeed they are reletive, but we've made huge strides since the game went fully pro over here.

Going 3 rounds in the Uefa Cup and Champions league(just one round away from the group stages) is a big achievment for us. We we one game away from AC Milan This season!

As I said, we appear to be the only club willing to take a gamble and make a firm bid for him rather than offer him a trial. At 21, and unproven over here, 500k plus is too steep. 400k not bad, 300-350k probably more realistic.

Pablo,

Can you give us an idea what sort of player he is....Strengths and Weakness's etc etc

Also what is your record transfer sale at the moment?

He's a striker, who filled in on the right side of midfield when we sold Kevin Doyle. We moved him back up front last season and he started scoring from everywhere!

Fastest player i've ever seen i'd say we're talking 100m in 10 secs with Roy. And he has an eye for goal.

Always says the right things on TV and Radio so the fans love him.

Weakness'.................Very passionate fella so he's a bit hot headed at time, that seems to have left him of late though

Of course we are, just been a bit unlucky

Whilst we dont have the stature of a championship club yet should our new ground get agreed hopefully that will take us closer.

As our league position indicates we need to start getting players who are Championship quality and maybe he is, but until he plays over here it will be hard to say whether he is worth 400-500k.

Cheers,

Given the choice who would you prefer Doyle or O Dononvan.

To answer a few points on this thread:-

1. Every player has a min. release clause in their contract. What it is, is a different issue. No agent worth their salt would allow a player to sign a contract without one.

2. £500,000 is IMO too much for someone that is essentially untried at this level.

3. Some of us on here are starting to sound like the Derby fans who we thought were arrogant when we turned down Derby's offer for Freddy. We have no right to expect any club to sell to us just because we (rightly or wrongly) consider ourselves the bigger club.

Its hard to say as they are different. No doubt Doyle was special. Roy has devastating pace and a great finish. Doyle was a work horse, but a work horse with skill and the ability to ghost into the box for goals. 1 to 11 that team was special and its slowly being broken up.

Whatever happened with all the pre-season interest rumoured for George O'Callaghan.  I see he's still with you, but there was much talk of many clubs lurking around him & he was supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread

Did he get priced out of a move or did no one actually come in for him?

He's training with Ipswich for the last 3 months. Seemingly they are negotiating a fee at the moment

Cheers Pablo.  That's what I thought I'd heard, but as he wasn't on their squad list but was on your's I wondered if it all fel through.

But looking at your site I see that your season is different to ours so it makes more sense now.  3 months to look at a player who so many were (reportedly) interested in does seem a bit steep though.

Ipswich have really annoyed our manager it seems. They are acting a bit out of order and trying to get him on loan now. The worlds longest trial!

He's another player who'd do well i'd say. And Ipswich know it.
