Heat 2 today brings us the battle between.

Robert Smith - Pubester v Axl Rose - spunky1983

Over to you people to decide.

Thank you. That narrows it down a bit.I've actually seen them live -at Beziers bullring, back in the 80's.

Never have. Don't own anything other than 2 Cure greatest Hits albums. Tough one this, even though Axl is a bit (lot) of a knob he has written one of my all time favourite choons.

He's the guy from Guns n Roses, isn't he?'fraid heavy metal's not my scene at all.

Not sure how much either completely wrote songs on their own. Izzy was the main songwriter in GnR I believe, I think Robert Smith did most of the writing in the Cure. Either way, both are great artists and a difficult one to call but as GnR are in my top 5 bands of all time I will go for Axl.

The Cure are among my least favourite bands of all time.
GnR were so great back in the late '80s/early '90s - gotta be Axl for me.

Could the name be changed to his actual name please, Robert Smith.

Thanks.

One of the most recognisable people in rock music over the past 35(!) years, Robert Smith is also one of the most consistent and IMO one of the best songwriters ever. Beneath the make-up, Smith lays it all out in his heart-felt songs, and backs them which his superb voice and some excellent music.

"Show me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream" she said
"The one that makes me laugh" she said
And threw her arms around my neck
"Show me how you do it
And I promise you I promise that
I'll run away with you
I'll run away with you"

Spinning on that dizzy edge
I kissed her face and kissed her head
And dreamed of all the different ways I had
To make her glow
"Why are you so far away?" she said
"Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you
That I'm in love with you"

You
Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely
You
Strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water
You're just like a dream

Daylight licked me into shape
I must have been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name
I opened up my eyes
And found myself alone alone
Alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me

You
Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely
You
Just like heaven

Axl Rose wrote most of the lyrics, but not all of them. He didn't contribute to the music at all. Doesn't really qualify him as a leading songwriter IMO.

Only one of them is a total and utter c**t - and, if you're looking for a clue, it's the one who isn't British.

VOTE ROBERT SMITH

He wrote 'One in a Million', 'Estranged' and 'November Rain' alone - they are seriously ****ing great songs.

Fair point. November Rain is great, but One in a Million is crap and can't say I've heard Estranged.

'Estranged' is the dark horse of the 'Use Your Illusion' albums - a towering work of majesty that incapsulates Rose's deranged hard-rock vision better than any other GNR song. It's the reason why everyone who prefers UYI2 over UYI1 does so. Have to disagree about 'One in a Million' - it's an amazing song, the like of which fat old goth boy could only dream of writing!! :raspberry:

Too bad Spunky hasn't even turned up, and so this heat could be a default win to team FAT GOTH
