But with a new stadium, you can boo in comfort with better acoustics so that your boo can be heard around the groun? At half time you can also be guaranteed quicker servic for a pint so you can come out suitably refreshed to boo some more and then get awy quickly at the end when your booing is complete[b said:Quote[/b] (CS J @ Oct. 05 2006,11:16)]booooo to the new stadium..
Only Problem is that land now extends into Rochford District Council land, who have never ever really wanted anything to do with the club[b said:Quote[/b] (blues_r_best @ Oct. 03 2006,20:35)]Also Ron talks another application about state of the art training facilities, where the club have aquired 22 acres, behind where the ground will be built.
And that we won't be moving from Roots Hall until the new stadium is complete.
Should not take as long as everybody thinks remember Stadia these days are mainly Steel frames etc...[b said:Quote[/b] (Xàbia Shrimper @ Oct. 04 2006,09:12)]Yep, I'm also a little sceptical of the timeframe BUT Ron Martin might only be referring to the completion of the stadium itself rather than the whole complex. When I spoke to him about five or six years ago, he said that the timeframe for the original stadium (without, if I remember correctly, any retail development) was 18-24 months, including the often long and drawn out tender process. He may have already put out invitations for tender (which, at the time, he estimated would take about 6 months) in anticipation of a positive response from Southend Council to reduce delays; we simply don't know. So, yeah, I don't think the BEGINNING of the 2008/90 season is realistic (but I'm not a stadium construction engineer) although the official site does actually did say "EARLY in the 2008/09 season" ...[b said:Quote[/b] (simply_blues @ Oct. 04 2006,10:01)]another thing which concerns me is the timeframe for the new stadium. While the club obviously want to relocate as soon as possible, i believe that 2008/9 may be unrealistic.
But the bit in Rochford is the training pitches, 2 grass and 1 All Weather, this is to be without any buildings so I guess it would be hard to refuse permission as they need to come up with a reasoned argument against the proposal and not just say we do not like the Football club. Councils are well aware that legally they have to be spot on otherwise it will be called in to be reassesed. And if this happens the Stadium plans will go on, and we will probably find that SUFC will start using Glouchester park to train in like they did under the Jobson regime, until the training facilities have been built.[b said:Quote[/b] (TrueBlue @ Oct. 05 2006,12:33)]Only Problem is that land now extends into Rochford District Council land, who have never ever really wanted anything to do with the club
Definitely 'frothing at the gash for me', although it is conjuring up some rather disturbing images in my head.[b said:Quote[/b] (sufcintheprem @ Oct. 04 2006,23:28)]I did enjoy this post although I'm not sure whether it's because it actually raises fresh issues all supportive of our cause or because it uses the term "frothing at the gash".[b said:Quote[/b] (prittlewellshrimper @ Oct. 04 2006,21:43)]Dont forget that there is already a very large ,busy Waitrose , a BUPA hospital and there will soon be a huge B & Q store on the Fossets Farm site and that the service road from Sutton Road is also under construction as we speak so if these have all had the planners blessing then why would they not welcome the stadium development , more to the point on what grounds could people object and be listened to ? Also 3 of the few hotels/function suites ie The Cumberland ,The Elsemere and The Roslin are all being sold at present with at least 1 ( probably all 3 ) will become flats .The point being that hotel rooms will be welcome by the Council , as for conference facilities , the Council have been frothing at the gash for ages to have some in the town . All in all it appears Ron knows excactly what the Council wants , what the football public want and of course what his Bank manager wants and seems to come up with plans that will make all of them happy .
Maybe we should object to the development[b said:Quote[/b] (Bob Cratchitt @ Oct. 05 2006,13:15)]My worry in all this is what are SZFC going to do for training facilities once B&L is closed down.
That bitch needs a kicking![b said:Quote[/b] (Murkey_Mouse @ Oct. 05 2006,14:17)]Maybe you should pay Sue Steer a visit
Wembley was a total different affair, too much political influence and media etc.[b said:Quote[/b] (simply_blues @ Oct. 05 2006,07:46)]due respect to those concerned, but i'm sure the owners and current builders of Wembley Stadium have an equal, if not better knowledge of construction - and where has it got them ? A stadium which is year behind completion
all things relative, Wembley is a much larger project, and subsequently, more time was allowed for its completion
If myself and others are wrong, in your eyes, for questioning the proposed completion date, then we shall stand corrected once the stadium is opened in early 2008/2009

I agree its a good site, the stadium shouldnt cause much problems outside of match days.[b said:Quote[/b] (Blue Shrimp @ Oct. 05 2006,17:08)]To the south is a dual carriageway & one line of houses about 450 metres from the ground. (No trouble re noise in view of distance & the fact that the pitch in part will be below ground level.)
Therefore it should not cause residents much trouble. Far less than Roots Hall set more in the centre of the town.
Some people should just move. Brightons quite nice these days...[b said:Quote[/b] (Jam_Man @ Oct. 05 2006,18:31)]I agree its a good site, the stadium shouldnt cause much problems outside of match days.[b said:Quote[/b] (Blue Shrimp @ Oct. 05 2006,17:08)]To the south is a dual carriageway & one line of houses about 450 metres from the ground. I know someone who lives by the roundabout and there is a petition already due to the traffic and parking problems match day may cause, its certainly not popular to some residents. (unsurprisingly)
No chance. It'd kill the high street.[b said:Quote[/b] (David Essex @ Oct. 06 2006,11:58)]I wonder if the option of a Mono rail system to transport fans/shoppers to/fro prittlewell or southend vic has been considered. you know the sort of thing you see at disney or airports.....
