Ron quote:

Life President
"We would want the stadium to be operating 24/7 and because of this the turnout - even in year one - could potentially double, which would put many millions at the managers disposal."

How good does that sound chaps?

The aspects that comprise the application are very interesting too: hotel as we know, 3 large restaurants, 3 pub-style supporters bars, retail development - even a players hostel! Well see for yourself, it's just come up on site......

Stadium Development Details

Also in that article he more or less reiterated the point I made in another thread when trying to point out to the doubters concerning the need for a 22,000 seater as opposed to a 15,000 seater about enticing the big name players to Southend United and this whole development being a sound, long term, viable investment for the club.

God forbid the council put the kibosh on all of this I can see open mutiny on the streets

Also Ron talks another application about state of the art training facilities, where the club have aquired 22 acres, behind where the ground will be built.

And that we won't be moving from Roots Hall until the new stadium is complete.

When I read stuff like this I still struggle to believe that the club being spoken about is actually Southend United.

Crazy, crazy, crazy days.

Spot on Beefy.

When you think back to the days of propping up the table at the bottom of League 2 and on the verge of playing conference football and when you consider exactly how long ago that was and how far we have come in such a short space of time, coupled together now with what looks to be just on the horizon it is truly difficult to fathom that we are indeed talking about our beloved Southend United.

Get the form right on the pitch and everything really will be just peachy.

ive been walking around all day with a massive smile on my face, and when i showed my cov mates the design even they were impressed and it stopped them from banging on about how they are going to thrash us on friday week

Lol, the photos they are holding up show the hotel which werent visible before.

In the middle picture the hotel looks like an eastern european council estate !
No wonder they hid it before!

Still all looks really good though, shame we have to wait till January to find out if it gets the green light.

This will give us a real chance of establishing ourselves as a (not huge but) decent-sized Championship club. And I gotta say having a stadium as unique and impressive-looking as that would be something to be really proud of as a club.

I know. Which is why I'm trying not to get excited until this project is definitely given the go-ahead. The proposed new stadium looks absolutely fantastic and points to a future potentially beyond our wildest dreams. But until the building work starts I'm going to remain nervous.

Don't you mean until the building work finishes?

One thing I have noticed is that there are no buildings around the training pitches. Does that mean that there will be no changing facilities there and that for training the team will have to get changed at the stadium and walk/drive to there?

Don't worry, by the time the place is being built, you will be a middle-aged Volvo driver.

It sounds fantastic. But I'm not going to get carried away until the proposal is formally accepted by the Council in early 2007 and the first foundations are laid at the Fossetts Farm, even probably not until the stadium starts taking shape. Why? Well, we've been down the particular avenue of tantilising hope far too many times in the past and we're still at Roots Hall. That's not to say I don't have any faith in Ron Martin - I probably have more than I've ever had since he first appeared at the club 7-8 years ago - but I'm not getting excited until this particularly tense period is over ...
