The belt couldn't have needed tightening too much if Webb was allowed to spend £36K on Pony Richards and £30K+ on Mark Rawle.
There is a difference between a one-off capital cost and a monthly liability such as players' wages.

It wasn't the occasional one-off capital cost of buying a Pony Richards which will killing us, it was the wages of players like Mark Tinkler and Neil Tolson. It was cheaper for the club to let players like Tinkler go cheaply and replace them with players like Richards.

People need to remember that the real cost of buying a player is now more often than not their wages than their transfer fee.

Webb (mk.III- heart obviously wasn't in it and wasted loads of money on some really sh!t players)
Eh?! Webb's sole task was to come in and slash and burn the wage-bill more effectively than an Amazonian migrant farmer. On that basis, Webb III was an unqualified success. We got rid of the dross (Connelly), we got rid of the pricey (Tinkler - north of £1500 a week), we brought in the cheap & flashy (Dean Holness!) and we didn't go down but stayed solvent.

Looks like "job done" to me.

He has submitted plans for the new ground
About three years too late. And with lots of wrangling with Delancey, Lansbury and so on.
Bollox, Naps. Having had the dubous pleasure of engaging in hour-long telephone calls to Wagman, and the equally dubious joy of dealing with property developers on an extremely frequent basis thanks to my job, it seems to me that the speed and lack of mess which have characterised Ron's dealings with Delancey and Lansbury are little short of miraculous. Ron has done an awesome job on that front, no ifs or buts.

If you can't recognise that, then I suggest that you're being a tad too Meldrew-like for your own good.

If we had submitted plans for a ground three years ago it would have been a lot smaller than the one we are going for now. The timing has worked out perfectly, even though it wasnt planned that way!

I think Ron Martin has done wonders for this club and is clearly trying to push us forwards.

I'm sure this has been discussed else where, but surely, Brush is the natural replacement for Tilly should he leave with Spinner as assistant?
I tip my hat to Ron. Seems to have the golden touch!
