right this is what I think,

started off as just a chance for him to turn a football club in to a building site

sacked wignall (because he needed to be seen doing something)

signed tilly as manager

realised he actually likes this football lark

gets carried away on all the promotion play off couple of years

times get hard

**** ive still got that feking football club

aah the football club theres a few quid there

I need that club to get the go ahead for that development I want

got the development

zzzzzh ooh yer the football club

thats my opinion, I would love to be proved wrong, and i would love a tiny bit of a level with saving money for the new stadium and letting the team suffer maybe a 60-40 compromise instead of the 95-5 switch it seems to be at the moment, other fans might not see things my way for them it might be 95 stadium 5 % tteam its just the way I like things be interesting to see how others view things?

I voted yes because he has, to this point, done an exceptional job in not only giving the club stability but also the prospect of a bright future.

But Cockles' points have to be considered and we have to be active in asking continued questions (in the right way) as things progress. To think he is here purely for the love of Southend United is naive but the interests of both parties don't have to be mutually exclusive.

In my opinion Ron is doing a good job. Obviously the credit crunch has affected him and his investment into the Blues, but his heart is in the right place.
Just dont let us go back to the Vic Jobson era , that was a proper nightmare.

I cannot recall anyone ever saying this. Everyone is aware Ron is a property developer first and wants to make money. Don't we all. However without the club he will not get his development i.e the development that makes the money;Sainsbury's, the houses and shops. All this has come together unfortunately at very much the wrong time. Still property developers often have to play the long game. I expect to see a delay in building announced. Not Ron's fault.

Good is an understatement

Ron Martin has been a Godsend to the Blues. His continued support of Steve Tilson has paid dividends and although we are going through a minor 'blip' the future still looks good under their joint leadership. Its beyond me how anyone can vote that he has been bad for the club!!

Different era, different game, money was not be and end all of the game I paid to watch, in todays world of football, Chairman seem to enjoy the limelight as much players, you only have to look at the premiership, bet you could name 50 % of chairman when once they stayed in the back ground.

We have to remember football clubs are now a business and not a sports past time for supporters

What the feck are you on? Clubs have always been run as businesses!

Most lower league clubs still make losses, it's just that the losses are now so huge, it's impossible to sustain without looking for additional revenues elsewhere.

What has changed for you? You still pay your entrance fee. So what if Chairmen enjoy the limelight? Why does that bother you so much? 'right that's it, I can name 10 Premier League chairmen so I'm not renewing my season ticket'..... How daft!

Are you saying you don't come and watch your team because of the money involved in the game? Or because you cannot afford it?

I have been a supporter since the 70's. I have never cared that much about how my club is financed, I have just supported them through thick and (mostly) thin. Why worry about what you cannot affect?

The only thing that has changed is that we have so much technology, you spend hours debating the finances of the club and the ins and outs of every transfer or rumour and gossip. In the past we would have a quick chat down the pub or once a week on the terraces.

Nostalgia is great but the world has changed. Everything costs more nowadays. Most 'hobbies' are ridiculously expensive. Why should football be any different? Fortunately, nobody else has the same (stupid) opinion as you, otherwise there wouldn't be a club left in the land to support!

I only care about one thing and that is the survival of the club. Success is great and, to some extent, the two go hand in hand. But I would be content to yo-yo between the lower divisions.

One thing is clear, when the club was in danger of going out of business, there wasn't a super rich fan beating down the door to buy the club and I think we are fortunate to have Ron in charge. I don't care if he makes millions out of it (which IMO he won't) as long as we still have a team to support and a stadium to go to.

Until someone shows me proof that Ron has some sinister masterplan up his sleeve, then I am happy to put my faith in the management team!

I can't believe this question is even being asked...

The only criticism people are firing at him recently is the lack of activity in the transfer market, but what exactly are we supposed to do if the right players aren't available? Apart from a late flourish from tge biggest club in the world and the newly richest club in the world, this was set to be the slowest window in years...

If you remember, even he was quoted as being suprised at the lack of Tilly's actions in the transfer market.

Apart from Man City and Chelski of course, which are more like playthings, and dare I say it Ebbsfleet which is more of a social experiment.
and afc wimbledon?

I think its a very brave thing that the club have done at Ebbsfleet, I just wonder if it would work for us?

Chelsea and Man City to some extent are massive businesses and the long term aim is for them to become the biggest club(s) in the world. If they succeed the rewards / profits will be huge.

Why else would Chelsea invest a lot of time and money in Asia and even the US, trying to build up a following? There's a big chance they won't succeed but......................Man U spend big but manage to make profits.

Ebbsfleet is a bad example as it is a real business. Entrepreneurial or what? Only time will tell whether it works or not and, if it does, expect to see others follow suit!

I don't think Ebbsfleet is entrepreneurial, as the risk is spread across many many people. Enterprise equals risk.

Chelsea/Man City- I don't believe spending way over the top equals good business, rather financial oneupmanship, but there you go.

Entrepreneurial = Ideas and risk.

It's a great idea, first time it's happened to a foorball club but has been done before (i.e in the music business).

The risk is that of failure and the subsequent damage to the entrepreneurs reputation.

As for Chelsea/Man City - I didn't say they are good businesses. But they are huge!

Over 100 years now we have attracted chairman have been robbing our club right, left right and centre

Selling our assets so they can retire with a nice fat Pensions etc and leaving their siblings nice and wealthy living of my beloved clubs blood money....

Without doubt our club would be the size of Norwich city or Ipswich Town but we was robbed big time over the 100 years or so

We really do have a good chance to catch these clubs up, potentially we can be a big as the above with our catchment area in South Essex we can... shame as this should of happened 60/70 years ago...

I have faith in Ron Martin to deliver our promise land; I for one will be taking my Sunday afternoon drive with the G/F drive to Southend just to look how OUR new Stadium is developing

ONE TEAM IN ESSEX
SOUTHEND UNITED FC

I'm in a role that's quite wide-ranging and I probably communicate with around 600-700 different people every year.

All I can say, is that if I had a 96% approval rating (current poll figures) then I would be absolutely estatic.

I think this poll clearly proves it was just a small minority criticising Ron on Tuesday night. I hope whoever directed Ron to the threads on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, now directs him to this thread here as well so he sees he has the backing of the majority. He has been in this world long enough to know more than 4% of this world are short of a braincell or two!

Well, i think we're all pretty sure who did that, aren't we. But yet, i'm pretty sure he won't show him this -

Where's the option of FANTASTIC job? That's what I'd have voted for given the chance. Who are the 3 who voted "bad" and what drugs have they been smoking?
