Post-Match Thread and Ratings Rochdale 3-4 Southend United

Thing is Hopper and Parillon knew they could rely on Bonne to deliver that so they both gambled and got their reward. It’s been said so many times attackers love early balls into the box and when it has defenders also facing their own goal it’s doubly dangerous.
Totally this ! A ball smacked down the line by Gus, picked up by Bonne and smacked into the box, two passes and its in the back of the net !

we went there a few weeks back and took around 500. the away terrace plus seats i believe holds around a 1000. bizarre that they would restrict us to 600 as they wont use the terrace themselves so potentially losing out on a lot of revenue. i get the 15% but thats just the minimum they need to give
I don’t think there is a minimum allocation in the National league, that only applies in the EFL. I believe their away stand holds 1000 if the temporary stand is still there that added another 200, but very few seats mostly terrace. You are correct financially it would make sense to offer as many places as possible but there again their owner is not short of a bob or two.

Couldn't be there last night, so settled for my local (Railway). What an absolute banging night of football and beers. Was rammed lady night.

I love this ****ing football club.

Little Keenan is fast becoming one of my all time favourites. What a little baller and a top lad. He ran it last night.

This is Southend united. We never do things in moderation.

Let's go and smash these vegan muppets and get to Wembley.
Agreed Tommy, let’s smash the carrot crunchers, I’m wearing my leather slacks for annoyance purposes.

I think a 3 for Hayes is very harsh. And a 10 for KAF ? way too dramatic ! Yes, he had a great game. But for a 10, I think he'd have to at least score 1-2 goals, and provide some assists
Hayes started badly and looked nervy. But he grew as the game went on and pulled off a couple of good saves that kept us in it. He also did his job second half. Still don't understand why we signed him as I don't think he's better than what we had already, but that's not what matters now, so UTB.

Gave myself last night and this morning to try and understand what happened last night and even now im still stunned and gutted about last night. First half i thought we was fairly even between two evenly matched sides with us slightly edging it. Second half we came out and looked like we were really up for it not giving you guys an inch the penalty i was in the side stand opposite your fans but down by the Sandy Lane end so couldnt see it too well, even though people have since said it was soft. At 3 1 i said to my cousin next to me 1 more goal will finish this and we looked like we would get it, then the subs came and everything changed, even now i still cant believe what i witnessed from 75 mins onwards. I cant remember his name but your No.22 was fantastic and had our full back on toast everything came through him, your set pieces as well were superior to ours This will take a long time to get over and not for the first time we have bottled and choked a big game, questions will be asked of McNulty but with his contract length i think he will be here next season. Id just like to finish by wishing you guys all the best for the rest of the play offs really hope you do it now, as you deserve it after last night and i cant stand the other 3 teams in the plays offs , to bring 1200 fans up on a Thursday night was brilliant and i dread to think what time you got home !! Thank you again for the welcome here as well !! All the best guys !!

At 3:1 down my Dad said that was us done, and I had to disagree and said that we had nothing to lose by pushing forward. If the crowd at Rochdale was as good as the atmosphere at Roots Hall last night, that would have been incredible. What a way to watch such an important away game!

The substitutions were masterclass, and whilst I thought we might pull one back, I never thought Rochdale would roll over and let us back in! At 3:2 it was game on. At 3:3 we smelt blood! That was an incredible game, and some top, top performances last night. KAF was a deserved MOM, and for me he is the physical embodiment of everything we are about as a club - small and mighty! Determined, tenatious, doesnt know when to give in...

All of them played a significant part in that incredible comeback. No criticisms from me for anything, they all did their absolute best at the end of a long and brutal season, and finishing in the playoffs just shows what we are about.

No one could ask for any more from any of those lads, so no matter what happens at FGR, we have outdone ourselves! If by another small miracle we get to Wembley, no one will dare to write us off.

I never thought we would see games of this magnitude again when we fell out of the EFL and struggled so much under the previous encumbants! Last night's game is up there with some of our greatest moments. BBC Essex played out the clips from our last 2 play off successes yesterday, which brought back all of the joy, tears and excitement back from those heady days.

Firstly, the L2 play off final v Lincoln at the Millenium Stadium where Duncan Jupp scored (I was there, and remember we had 3 trips there in 14 months with 2x LDV finals).
Then the L2 play off final at Wembley where Joe Piggott sent us to penalties. Again, I was there!

Huge, huge games! These are key life moments.

We have had some crackers in the past, and this one means so much more given the mess we were in when COSU so bravely took over, and how close we came to disappearing!

Thanks for the kind words @SOUTHENDMAD1, at 1-3 we all thought we were toast, obviously nobody told the players. Football can be very cruel, and you could see that your players looked so deflated when we made it 3-3, that you just knew we would then get it over the line. Our No 22 is Keenan Appiah-Forson, who we got from the Spammers. He had to work twice as hard as the other players to cement his place in the team, probably down to his diminutive size. But now he's there it will take a lot to dislodge him. Truthfully, if he were taller he would be playing at a higher level for sure. Yeah, the Veggies, what is there to say, the horde will descend upon them next Wednesday, and then it will be in the lap of the Gods. Win or lose, it's been a hell of a season. Good luck for next season, and we may well meet again, who knows?

I am surprised that people still don’t appreciate the need for depth after a game we won because of our strength in depth.

Was Collin fit when he signed? I didn't think he was?

There is it appears also a 15% minimum allocation at this level- for Rochdale it appeared they were restricting our allocation to that minimum even though the away end help more- in the end we didn’t sell out that allocation so didn’t test if they would give us more…

Would clubs give us the minimum they have to given our support is almost like a 12th man? Even if they don’t need the money it seems that would be less than “sporting” and disrespectful to the fans. But who knows.

I know what you mean, but when so much is at stake the sporting ethos tends to go out the window, Steve Cotterill will try every trick in the book and Dale Vince has been known to treat away fans badly before.

spent the day watching highlights and reading this whilst trying to work, rolled in at 4am and got a couple hours kip before work but absolutely worth it possibly the best live game ive been to in terms of drama/result. i agree with some of the people pointing out the negatives, but just take a bit of time to enjoy what we did last night cos that was special!
It’s the final result that matters at this stage of the season not how you achieve it, nobody remembers an unlucky loser!

I wonder what's going on in Harry C's head at the moment? He left a basket case, even though they stuck with him through injuries. I don't begrudge him the need to put some extra dosh in the pocket, but he now faces a healthy club with a superb following and the very real possibility of being dumped out by them. I'm not saying he should have stayed, but what if that is what he will think if the Shrimpers remove the veg?
Bet he enjoyed playing in front of under 2k fans and 100 fans away from home.
