Robbie Keane to Liverpool

I have never understood how people can say one player can be great for one team, but as soon as he moves to a bigger club at the same level and with a better team around him, they aren't going to do well.

Madness. I think he will do well for Keane, natural goalscorers like Keane don't stop scoring goals because the team has higher aims.

Well Drogba is one of the two best players in England and Adebayor isn't far behind so that's not a massive criticism.

I'll let you have Drogba, very decent player but Adebayor?

If you look back 12 months, he wasn't winning rave reviews at Arsenal and was a bit of a joke back then. Yes, last season he had a very good season, but is it a flash in the pan? Look at his record after he cut his dreadlocks and went to shorter hair. He looked a very ordinary player towards the end of the season.

As for Keane. Decent player, will get you goals, but I would have thought for £18 million, Liverpool would look for someone with Champions League predigree.

But they are also prepared to pay £15million plus for Barry and let Alonso got for around £12 million. Alonso is such a better player than Barry in my opinion.

I do wonder whether or not a move for David Villa was dead in the water a long time ago, as for not much more than £18m Valencia would've sold as they're in dire straits... and then you have the best strike partnership in Europe.

That said, Keanes a fantastic acquisition. Intelligent, quick with a knack of scoring goals when it counts, Liverpool will look dangerous next season all over the park. Imagine coming up against a midfield of Barry, Gerrard and Mascherano only to have to tend with an attacking line up of Babel, Torres and Keane... It doesn't bode well for the best of teams.

Having seen him close up he is worth the money. A great player, if had was a little quicker he would be described as world class. Don't forget he has played in Italy and moved for some huge sums of money. One of the only players i regret seeing sold. A gent

BBC are saying that the final price could be £20.3m. Seems an awful lot.

Still, Keane is a leader on the park, appears to carry little or no "baggage" with him (he's not constantly featuring on the front pages of the red-tops, for instance) and ought to fit into the club and the City.

It's a less riskier acquisition than Villa. But is it a wee bit too conservative...?

Matt

He, imo, is prem quality but not international quality and that is what the top four should be aiming for

I presume you mean 'not international quality', although that being the case I believe that only two strikers in the Premier League (Owen & Shevchenko) have scored more International goals than Keane has.
